Unlike her brother, who bundled up in sweaters and fuzzy woolen socks whenever the temperature dropped before 40 degrees, Mystique didn’t mind the cold. In school she’d been one of those girls that gave her teachers conniptions when she forgot her coat and refused to be bothered with scarves-and despite doomsday predictions of her likely fate (frostbite, pneumonia, an untimely death) she almost never got sick, even in the winter. She enjoyed snow and snowstorms, and thought that polar bears were-as Charles would say-entirely groovy, provided they were viewed from a distance.

Nevertheless, she thought that the Brotherhood’s hideout in northern Canada was a tad excessive ( ... )

Mystique jumped up and snatched the bundle of letters from him. “Thank you!” she yelped, leaning up to press a quick kiss to his cheek.

He grinned. “Share and share alike; they’re not all yours.”

She waved him away, already rifling through the letters. “Here’s one for you, Riptide; four for you, Erik, and who are you talking to in Russia? One for Emma, one for Angel, and…three for me ( ... )

Mystique hummed in consideration as she read the last few paragraphs. Charles often invited her back to the mansion, but she’d never made the trip back; at first, the very idea had rubbed raw and painful, and as the months passed and the Brotherhood became her new home, a visit to her old home had begun to seem both pointless and impractical.

Now, though…it would be nice to see everyone again, and Magneto had never specifically forbidden contact with her brother or her old friends.

Trapped in an underground hideout in the freezing middle of nowhere, the idea of a visit to Westchester was sounding more and more appealing.
