Charles/Eric -- Scars, Childhood abuse

Charles has very old, raised scars that criss-cross his back, the kind of scars a man's belt might leave. Interspersed are knotted scars in the shape of crescent moons that fit a man's belt buckle.
Erik, who thinks Charles' life has been idyllic, reacts badly upon seeing them for the first time.

Charles is in his lap.
The mere thought of it leaves Erik breathless, but the reality of it, after weeks and weeks of dancing around each other and then that one secret kiss Charles stole in Russia, is so much more.
Charles is straddling Erik’s legs, their chess game long forgotten (both kings lying side by side on the ground among the other scattered pawns) and his lips. Oh, his lips. Charles’ hands are buried in Erik’s hair, pulling their faces ever closer. Lips, teeth, tongue, clashing, melding, and hot, so wonderfully hot

Charles finally notices that something is wrong. He lifts his face from Erik’s neck and frowns ever so slightly. What’s wrong? Charles thinks, his face flushed and eyes blown wide with clear arousal. Is it too much? I thought you were enjoying-”
Erik wants to reassure Charles that there’s nothing wrong. How could there be anything wrong when he has brilliant, naïve Charles in his lap, ready and willing and everything he’d never dared to dream -
And yet.
Erik begins pulling off Charles’ cardigan and only manages a few buttons on his button down before he simply starts pulling the shirt apart.
What’s gotten in to you? Charles laughs breathlessly, projecting bemused confusion and endless warmth as he always did, seemingly without realizing

This is amazingly well-written. I love everything about it - the heat between them, Erik's thoughts on how his dreams are becoming a reality, the way he stops in his tracks after feeling that first scar and becomes both terrified yet determined to find out what happened to Charles. Charles, poor baby, who has no idea what's going on.
The last line was perfection, the way he wants to protect Charles against the evil against his world but finds himself failing when he's so obviously already experienced at least some of it. The burning in his eyes was so bittersweet; Erik sees himself as a weapon, but he feels so deeply, perhaps more than anybody else...
In a nutshell, this was awesome. Thanks for writing, nonnie.

This is such a lovely comment I'm a little bit speechless.
I've never written (consensual) foreplay/making out before, so I'm relieved that the heat came through without sounding ridiculous. And yeah, Charles really has no idea what's going on which really makes it hurt more for Erik.
I was thinking about writing more after that last line, but in the sleep deprived four in the morning haze when I posted this thing, that line seemed the definitive end and I'm glad sleep deprived me followed through on that. Erik really does have so much feeling locked away inside of him. He's afraid of it and it's part of why Charles is so attached to him, imo. I'm glad the depths of his feelings came through for you, since I was trying to capture that first moment of horrified discovery...
In a nutshell, this was the perfect comment. Thank you for reading!

OMG, OMG, OMG, OMG! This.... This... I... Have. No. Words. It is perfection. Utter perfection. Oh, Charles, still so innocent, perplexed by Eric's reaction. And Eric! So very, very in love. I love have fiercely protective he is, how horrified he is knowing that someone has done this to Charles. This is better than anything I could have hoped for. Thank you!

I'm so happy the OP liked this. I churned this out at like three in the morning and I know it's riddled with mistakes, so I'm really happy you liked it so much!
I was worried I was being too subtle, but it seems I have nothing to worry about. Thank you for the wonderful comment!

Can I just imagine this is real? That Erik would always be that protective of Charles?
Oh, me too. I know Charles can take care of himself, but I love the idea of the two of them taking care of each other's secret hurts and helping each other to realize that they're not alone anymore.
I'm so happy that last line was such a hit. And yes, Charles didn't do anything at all, and that's what breaks Erik's heart...
Oh, so tender and heartbreaking. Erik's shock, rage and sadness to Charles' childhood abuse and Charles' lack of response to his scars makes me want to cry forever. T-T

Wow, so I wrote this in a two hour stretch between 2 and 4 am, and I was really not expecting such an amazing response. I'm somewhat embarrassed because there are so many spelling errors and a formatting fail, so I'm panning on cleaning this up and de-anoning, but I'm so happy you all enjoyed this despite the errors and I'm really thankful for all of your amazing comments!

I agree with OP that the last line is gorgeous--and so very apt. Charles didn't do anything, but he's still marked.
