Witness the tropefest, dear god. Anyway (inspired by a social network fic), sometime after their fight, either Erik or Charles gets in an accident and forgets everything but their emotions going back several months. I.E., they still remember their deep love for the other.
So despite the shifty warnings of their comrades, they go try to talk to the other, who's all, but you left me! And the amnesiac is all, why would I do that, I love you! And they reconcile and have hot sex. The end.

I didn't know I wanted this until I read your prompt (and how obvious is it that I'm kinda just hanging out here, academic responsibilities be damned?).
