As much as Charles and all of the fangirls love Erik, it's important to note that he is, indeed, quite murderous. It doesn't bother him to hurt or kill or maim another person.
One day the kids see this side of Erik and it freaks them out, to the point where they're all a bit scared of him. Maybe they even want to kick him out of the group.
It's up to Charles to save his reputation and relations.
Can be post movie (where I think this would work exceptionally well, especially if Erik tries to come back) or during movie/Au. Whichever is fine. I just want to see the group hating on Erik and Charles rushing in to defend him.
