Name: Angeal Hewley [Original Universe]
Age: 25
Gender: Male
Species: Genetically enhanced human
Sexuality: Mainly heterosexual, buuut I wouldn't discount anything.
Housing: tba
Marked: Yes, with a cross.
Appearance: Angeal has a rather striking appearance that makes him hard to forget. His body is large and muscular, toned from his rigorous training as a SOLDIER and having to keep up with the antics of his students as well, especially a certain puppy. His frame, in combination with his personality, can often make him seem intimidating and unapproachable though Angeal never means to come off this way.
With short black hair framing his face and blue eyes hued with the mako he's been injected with that constantly hold a stern look, he looks every bit the part of the mentor that he plays. He wears the usual SOLDIER 1st Class uniform, consisting of a black sleeveless turtleneck, black shoulder guards, baggy black pants and black combat boots. He wears a belt around his waist that bears the SOLDIER insignia, as well.
Personality: Angeal is a strict man, who holds his pride, dreams and honor very high, and most of the times above everything else, though he will sometimes make exceptions to it. He's a man full of wisdom and experience, willing to pass on what he knows to all those who are willing to listen and learn from what he teaches. He always keeps a calm mind and level view on the situation - he has to, since most of the time he's bailing Zack out of situations the boy got into due to his headstrong personality.
Despite his strict, no nonsense personality, Angeal is kind and caring and not unwilling to joke around sometimes, proven by his playful nickname for his young student, Zack - "puppy", after the SOLDIER's energy and optimism. If he cares for someone, he will do all in his power that he can to protect them, even if doing that causes him to seem like he doesn't care at all.
Abilities/Strengths: Angeal has enhanced speed, stamina, and strength due not only to the mako injections he received as a SOLDIER, but as well as his training as one. He's able to use Materia as well, which allows him a wide variety of magic at his, quite literally, fingertips. He's skilled not only in the ways of the sword, but is also quite formidable in hand-to-hand combat, which makes it tough to catch Angeal at a true disadvantage most of the time.
As well, he also has the abilities bestowed upon him by Project G, which he hates - by transferring his DNA to others, he can create clones of himself. Not only that, but he can absorb the traits of others into himself as well, shown in the most extreme case when he combines with some of his clones to create an incredibly powerful, horrible beast by the name of "Angeal Penance". There's also the one white wing he possesses that allows him flight when revealed.
Personality wise, his calm personality and experience allows him a good view on nearly every situation, and it also allows him to be unbiased [most of the time] when he needs to be. His pride also gives him great strength and emotional stability.
Weaknesses: Angeal is very much guilty of having too much pride - so much so that following his pride may sometimes cloud what is right and what is wrong to him. There's also the fact that he's willing to do a lot for those he cares for - almost anything, really, as much as he can.
History: Angeal was born in the small village of Banora to Gillian and Hollander Hewley, where he grew up with the man who would become his best friend, Genesis Rhapsodos. He was poor, but he was happy, and enjoyed his days in his village with Genesis. But one they they heard of SOLDIER, and joined together, eventually rising to SOLDIER 1st class and befriending the great SOLDIER hero, Sephiroth.
One day, he also took on the role of mentor - to a young, eager man named Zack Fair, with big dreams of rising to SOLDIER 1st class and becoming a hero. Under Angeal's strict but caring tutelage, Zack quickly rose to SOLDIER 2nd class, so very close to grasping his dreams. But the peace wouldn't last. The unrest began when Genesis betrayed ShinRa, taking a large force of SOLDIER 3rd and 2nd class with him, leaving Angeal behind in confusion. Behind the scenes ShinRa was still searching for him as one of its most powerful people. One day, Zack and Angeal got a mission together, to infiltrate a Wutai force fort at Mount Tamblin to eliminate the force threatening ShinRa. The mission was relatively easy to complete, as Zack infiltrated the fort and annihilated the forces inside, with only a brief moment where Angeal had to save him. But the danger wasn't over with the mission - they were faced down by a group of masked men, unlike the Wutai forces they'd faced, and Angeal instructed Zack to flee with the director of SOLDIER, Lazard. When Zack returned, the masked men were dead, and Angeal was gone, having presumably defected from SOLDIER along with his friend Genesis. In truth, he had gone with Genesis, but not with intentions to defect from SOLDIER; his intentions were to try and change his friend's mind about the situation, and to come back.
A month passed. Angeal and Zack met again - this time in Angeal's home town of Banora, as Angeal protected his student from a strike by Genesis in the town's facotry. But he wasn't going to stay, walking out after Genesis as the other made his exit. In the next moment he's found at home, hovering over the body of his dead mother, and an angered Zack begins throwing him around in frustration and confusion. Angeal says little, only that "the mother could not continue to live, and neither can the son" before leaving Banora, and Zack, behind.
The next time the two meet is during a Genesis Clone raid in Midgar. Asked on what he plans to do, Angeal gives his student two disturbing replies: "World conquest" and "revenge". He reveals his wing and calls himself a monster, though Zack counters by calling him an angel. After the brief conversation concludes Angeal sends Zack away by creating a ravine in the floor, which the other SOLDIER falls through.
Angeal reappears before Zack again on a highway in Midgar, and acts as transportation as he flies the boy to the ShinRa building, where they help Sephiroth deal with Genesis clones and save Professor Hojo. Angeal confronts Genesis only briefly before the man leaves, and Angeal follows after to leave Zack to fight a summon Genesis has chosen. He returns only briefly to apologize for leaving Zack alone in the confrontation, before leaving for Modeoheim to meet with Lazard.
His final moment with Zack is in Modeoheim. Dr. Hollander, head of Project G and also Angeal's father, explains about Angeal's situation to Zack - which causes Angeal to resort to drastic measures to end everything once and for all. He becomes a monster called Angeal Penance by assimilating the DNA of several monster clones of himself, and fights Zack to what would be his death. Angeal, in his last moments, passed onto Zack his pride and prized possession - the Buster Sword. He told the boy to continue to hold on to his dreams and to never forget his honor, no matter what, and then passed on.
He didn't expect to wake up again, yet he did. And when he did, he awoke in a cathedral, in a world he didn't recognize.
