I'm savoring chapter nine in Information Architecture for the World Wide Web, it's Thesauri, Controlled Vocabularies, and Metadata. On pave 203 they say "We'll explore types of classification schemes in more detail later in this chapter, but first let's take a look at the 'Swiss Army Knife' of vocabulary control, the thesaurus."

I have all this exciting wonderful work to do but stupid daily tasks and phone calls keep getting in the way. Like calling the library to make sure that they don't charge me for something I didn't break. Or going across town to pick up a cheap printer. I am quickly becoming obsessed with local food.

In class today we talked about postmodernism and information for about five minutes and it was like the five minutes I've been waiting three years for.

OK maybe not that extreme, but it did explain why we're reading an ostensibly outdated book on technology.

My anxiety has been really bad.

How many of my LJ posts say that?

I'm thinking about doing my big IA project on content management. In particular I will focus on taxonomies, metadata, controlled vocabularies, thesauri, tagging and the like. Oh it's so exciting!

Today I was told that getting back on the public library thing after having a career in industry doesn't work well. I always thought that what happened in the private sector dictated what happened in public libraries, I don't know how that could be wrong. I still miss my cat.

Mike and I got tropical plants. I put them in bigger pots today and vowed to keep them alive. They only need to be taken care of once a week with a little water and plant food.

OMG I hate that Jay guy! Adam totally made out with that girl and Jay knew it, he was right there. Nevan's cool.

I was instantly frustrated and angry when I got home. It's nice to watch such mindless television on the internet when I want to punch something.

My orientation was awesome! My advisor is finishing up her term as ALA president-elect, so I had to wait for my advising because she was doing a phone interview. While we were at orientation her eighth book talk on Tell Me More was airing so I got to come home and listen to it. It was about sharing the inauguration experience with children. ( Read more... )
