On The Writing of Sherlock Fic

Jun 02, 2013 01:53

So I finally finished my first Sherlock piece about half an hour ago. It took ages and I'm still not entirely happy with it. It's a double 221B and I'm finding that I liked drabbles because I think they encouraged tight writing but the "b" part of 221B always makes the ending seem artificial. Anyway, time to give it to my betas and brit-picker ( Read more... )

You did it!

I'm not usually fond of drabble, it's too short for my taste but I've read good ones (it's frustrating, I always want more). I know how difficult it is to write!

I'm trying to find a prompt but I'm not very good at it :(

Drabbles can leave me wanting more, too. In some ways they're easier as a writer though because there's not a lot of time for plot.

I appreciate the thought!

If you need another person to beta I'd be happy to take a look.

Re inspiration, I see nothing wrong with putting a comment/link at the top of the page "inspired by a scene from _____". I'm assuming the story was posted on a site that allows comments? If so, could you just leave a comment, essentially saying what you just did (Thanks for coming back to finish this story. The ____ scene inspired me to write my own fic. Would you be okay with me linking back to your piece as the original source of my inspiration?)

Pulling ideas out of the ether is...difficult at best. Fan fic by definition is inspired by stories someone else wrote. If you are fortunate enough to have inspiration strike, I say take advantage of the moment.

Prompt: If Mycroft is the British Government and smarter than Sherlock, then Anthea must be more than just a PA. Let's say she is aware/listening in/sitting in the corner unobserved during the SHERlocked scene when Irene is making her demands. What would Anthea be doing/thinking.

Thank you! I'll send you a copy!

That's a good idea re: the story. It's on AO3 so maybe I'll drop the author a note.

A very interesting prompt indeed. I'll need to think about that. And I'll have to watch Scandal again, oh darn. I want more Anthea!

Inspiration is always a funny thing. I tend to just take it where it comes!
