How Do We Keep The Music Playing???

I mean really……….how do we keep the music playing???  Now, this is actually the title to a beautiful song about the difficulty of keeping the love alive in a relationship.  The “music” being the metaphor for love in the song.

Well, this entry isn’t about that.  It is actually about “How do we keep the music playing” LITERALLY.

I started ( Read more... )

*CLAP CLAP CLAP* Here...here!!!
I totally agree. The music business has spiraled into "who's got money" or the copycat game. One label has an artist who is a success - the rest of them sets up a copycat sound to sell records. BLAH!!!!

Unfortunately, the rise of the computer has enabled the music industry to make albums by people with little or no talent. Auto-tune can make my dog hit every note in the scale. Old school bands will ALWAYS rule. Why? Because they had to have the chops to get it right, and get it right fast or they had to do it over - no fancy computer touch ups. I've got friends in 2 touring bands, both of which are enormously talented. They are also extremely hard-working and make just enough to live on. It's very sad when many real musicians, who make really good music, have to scrape and claw for every last dime, while corporately designed boy bands or pop starlets rake in millions just because they aren't ugly as sin and can carry a tune.

Yeah....those computer programs are amazing for the completely NON-TALENTED. Hey....you might be onto something.....maybe you should try to get your dog a record deal....just attach some bimbo's picture to it....submit it...and see what happens!! hahahaha!!

What happened? anonymous July 12 2006, 23:52:42 UTC
Well sweetie,Arthur here,It's just like everything else on this planet.I could get on my soapbox for probably ten hours. The one thing that finally occured to me,was people,in general, don't give a shit. You remember when I told you about my own experience on the drums.I worked hard at perfecting a drum solo for about three weeks, and after performing said solo,I was asked if I knew how too play Wipeout.Oh did the light turn on for me.People have learned to accept mediocraty,Did I spell that correctly or did my dislexia kick in?Take a step back and listen to people,my God, they will, and are perfectly content with,half-assed.They don't care if someone has talent or not.How many people watch that bullshit American Idol crap and think, wow that could be me.How many people have you witnessed yourself asking you if they can sit in with the band? What happened to being proud and willing to sign your name to everything that you do.Ok I'll stop now.I told you I could go for ever.Ethics, honesty, integrity,in most cases, gone. It's no longer fasionable ( ... )

Okay, you guys are really putting a damper on my enjoyment of the latest William Hung CD.

Seriously, I can sympathize. But I try to remember that this sort of thing isn't really about music, it's about money and celebrity. Jackie Gleason was one of the more popular *recording* artists in the 1950's, fer cryin' out loud. And anyone remember William Shatner's version of "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds"? At least Paris Hilton's cute. ;-) I also try to remember that ultimately the point of music is making people feel good. When my talented singer/songwriter friend complains about playing weddings, I tell him there's no shame in bringing lots of joy to lots of people on one of the best days of their lives. If a bunch of 13-year-olds find the latest no-talent pop idol a diversion from their adolescent angst, I'm okay with that. They'll grow out of it.

I (for a milli-second) can see your point of JUST the entertainment value....I actually found William Hung ENTERTAINING in a comical way....but too be honest.....Paris Hilton isn't entertaining....not even in her porn........she is and will always be vacuous.
