All right, having the Dynames Tau is definitely helping me stay up to speed with modern machines, but it's not quite working as my style. Fortunately, I've got some ideas ( Read more... )

[He's still got a bit of a thousand yard stare, but at least he's making the effort to talk to people now.]

You've got to do whatever works for you.

This way, it should feel less like I'm borrowing someone else's machine.

It's not like the old owner is going to want it back.

Just the feeling, I mean! It feels weird using a mech designed for someone else's skill set.

Why must you post this thread *after* Anew died? messiahfist May 1 2010, 12:40:38 UTC
Well, I guess I have good news and bad news for you.

Good news is, everything you said sounds like it's possible to do. The bad news is that Anew's gone, so it might be more difficult than it should be.

Though all things considered there's been some upgrades Setsuna's talked about for Exia, and I guess we could help each other out.

Good idea! What's Exia looking at?

It's a high-mobility pack for Exia. Giving it more swords would be rather redundant, so speed is the smart place to make improvements.

Yeah, I think he's about hit the sword event horizon there.

Do you need more weak points on your machine for the enemies to exploit?

Dynames doesn't have THAT many weakpoints! Besides, a bigger beam saber is totally worth it!

Have you ever heard this saying? It's not the size of the beam saber that counts - it's how you wield it!

But sure, okay. If you promise these mods won't get ya killed, I'll see what I can do.

...at that point, wouldn't you be better off modifying a GN-X series or a Gespenst or something? Celestial Being's Gundams are designed to be fairly specific in purpose, and there's not that much advantage to a pseudo-Solar Furnace over a fusion reactor.

In fact if you're that focused on close-range combat, I think there's a spare Grungust Type-2 in storage. Even you could probably avoid getting shot down in that.

Actually, I think that Dynames has a lot more potential as a melee machine than you might think! The GN Shields can help me close distance, and it still has plenty of medium-range armaments.

Well, you can do anything with a machine if you shoehorn it in hard enough, but at some point it just becomes more efficient to build a new frame around the new purpose, like we already did with Cherudim.

I'm just taking the strengths Dynames already has, and guiding them in new directions!

Dynames was designed first and foremost as a sniper unit. It would be to your advantage to hone your marksmanship, anyway.

Sure, but a lot of the things that made it a good sniper unit can augment its abilities as a close-mid range unit, too.

I guess...

You do realize why everyone's being so hard on you, right? I'm sure you already know, but Dynames belonged to a comrade and good friend of ours. So proposing changes to his unit, it's like changing him, in a way. I'm not sure if he would've approved.

A dude's not his mech, you know. You think he'd really be that bothered by his old mech being put to good use?
