Tropical Depression 25 has become Tropical Storm Alpha, setting a new record for tropical storms in one season (22).

Tropical Depression 25 has formed southwest of Puerto Rico and is forecast to become Tropical Storm Alpha later today.

So, someone remind me why, exactly, I'm about to FARTHER into the path of this storm...?

A friend of mine just referred to Wilma as "Tropical Storm Hurricane Wilma". WTF?

Wilma's sustained winds are down from 175 to 165. It is still, however, a very dangerous Category Five storm.

I went to bed last night and Wilma was a Cat 2, and a few hours later when I woke up, it was a Cat 5! I don't believe it!

"The barometric pressure in the eye was 884 millibars (26.1 inches), the lowest ever recorded in an Atlantic Ocean hurricane, the center said. The lower the pressure, the greater a storm's intensity. The previous record was set in 1988 by Hurricane Gilbert, which had a reading of 888 millibars."
