I never did see a clearly defined eye on Ernesto. Is this usually an indicator of how strong a storm might end up? Or simply its endurance factor?

I believe the more clearly defined eye indicates strength, but isn't necessarily an indication of endurance. For endurance, i think you have to look at external factors such as, is it going to pass over land, what's the water temperature, etc.
