5 Months?

That's it? Time flies!

To remember me...
Six Months Progress Post, show me your cake flavors, Intro Post in weddingplans, guestlist whining and Intro Post at 2009_weddings

Well, here we are at 5 months. Very short post because, since school's been winding up, not too much has happened. Still, I'll save you the gory details!

Our engagement party was a complete success!! I had almost all of my bridesmaids in one spot, which was awesome. Especially because they all get along really well! :) As favors, we had plastic girls' dress-up jeweled silver rings, mini-8 balls (my thing), and mini-Rubik's cubes (his thing). Everyone signed a matted and framed engagement photo of us, and Hobby Lobby was having a sale, so the original cost of $30-some-odd was cut down to, like $10. I can't remember exact figures off the top of my head, but it was cheap and everyone got to wish us well! :)

Here's the frame:

Also, the florist got back to us with mock-ups of our flowers! Jill at Blooming Events has been fabulous to us! We'll be using alstromeria for the bridesmaids' bouquets, and Casablanca lilies with alstromeria accents for my bouquet, all tied off with some basic raffia. Simple, classy, eco-chic. :)

Something else supercool that has developed over the last month are bridesmaids' dresses. They are in charge of getting their own--as long as it is yellow. Most are waiting until the Spring because more options will be available, but three already have their dresses. I'm not really picky about what they wear because we're all poor right now, but I love the way they look on the girls so far, and that was really what was important to me.

The next month will be for:
--Pinning down a photographer. Since we moved the wedding from my hometown to where we are currently living, we need to find a photographer. We've got a few leads, so that won't be too hard.
--Starting on the favors. Our favors are going to be wine/liquor bottles we collected (rescued, as it were) to recycle. They are going to be used three ways: the tops for kissing bells (etched with our names, the date) and favors [TRIPLING as placecards because they will have the names of our individual guests on them also!], then used twice in our centerpieces, as floating candleholders filled with glass chips in the base. Need to start on that before it gets to be too soon to be worried!
--Filling out the contracts and picking a venue for the reception. We've got ideas, just now we'll have time for me to look around and do the dirty work.
--CAKE TASTING. Our Best Man is going to be making the cakes, so I finally get to try out all the yummy recipes I've collected.
--And everything else. I start back to school again in one month from Sunday, so I need to get as much done now as I can!

My last question...
Show me your... Name Changes.
To those of you who weren't sure if you wanted to change your name or not:
What helped you finally make the decision?
What did your FH think?
What were your reasons for being on the fence?
...And any other name change-related anecdotes. :)
