Summary: (AU)
They wanted him brought to his knees, their sneers told him so. Squall would never buckle and bend to their whims.
Shards of the Belief
Now I’ve told you this once before
You can’t control me
Squall winced, holding his injured ribs while gingerly prodding it with his left hand. They were bruised but nothing serious, glaring up at the angry ebony eyes, he smirked. So, the sharpshooter couldn’t take her down, no problem, Squall would take down this threat to peace. Her hands moved deftly, and he narrowed his grey-blue eyes at her, she was planning something.
"Foolish boy, you can’t even understand the surface of my power." She whispered as strands of energy swirled around her pointed golden nails. "Join me, I could make you great, like Seifer." She added, and Squall shouldered his gunblade with a smirk.
"Whatever." He stated, infuriating her. Edna wailed and tossed the ball of energy at him. Easily he leapt over it, the wind sashaying his chocolate locks as he landed before her with silent grace.
If you try to take me down you’re gonna break
Now I feel your everything
Nothing that you’re doing for me
Another spell sliced by his cheek covering him in cuts, but his smirk only grew wider. ‘I had taken down her precious knight, Seifer, though I didn’t want to, but the man refused to listen.’ He thought while swinging his blade in an arc to land a deep gash on her chin. Only to reverse his swing and cut off her ridiculous headdress. This served to anger the sorceress, as she began to gather loads of energy.
"You are NOTHING to me!" She screamed as dark energy swirled between her palms. "Merely an ant to be squashed." Edna snapped and the energy in her palms began to fluctuate. Squall couldn’t help himself, causing her to anger further.
"Whatever." He stated and raised a taunting eyebrow, as if begging her to take her best shot. Adrenaline was coursing through his veins, and red energy started to swirl behind him.
"DIE!" She bellowed, and thrust the growing ball of dark energy at him. There was no where to run, and no time to react, but still he smirked, and the red energy flashed wildly.
I'm picking you out of me
you run away
Cackling could be heard as the blackish energy impacted, but another cry dwarfed it. "Renzokuken!" Squall summoned, and the red energy flew outward. It blew apart the negative energy as Squall blasted through, the red energy concentrating around him. Quickly it came to a point on his gunblade as he danced his way through a few deadly moves. Each scoring a gregarious amount of deep hits, and Edna recoiled.
Still, he wasn’t done, as more red energy swirled about him for another hit. He smirk and brought up his gunblade in a salute before swinging outward. Tilting his wrist down, the blade followed and the red energy traveled the length of the blade to the earth. "Rough Divide!" He yelled as the earth crumbled beneath them.
"Shield, protect." Edna quickly interceded, and withdrew from his finishing strike. "It doesn’t matter, I have achieved my objective." She wheezed out, and energy began to cover her.

Squall found himself standing triumphantly from his engaging battle before gazing around. Edna had left, but the words she had said before disappearing had him frowning. ‘Objective?’ He pondered before his frown got deeper. ‘She got the president!’ The thought completed he leapt from the ruined parade float and crouched before the group coming up.
"My father?" Rinoa’s voice drifted from behind him. He shook his head, and tilted his eyes to the bleary sky. Squall heard as the group surrounded Rinoa, comforting the woman and promising that they would get him back. He also heard Irvine apologize for not taking the shot. Yet, none came to check on him, and he raised on glowing, tired hand to one of his larger gashes.
"Cure." Squall muttered and stalked off. "I refuse to fail." He stated and followed the soft trail of magic that surrounded the sorceress.
You’re always hiding behind your so called goddess
So what you don’t think we can see your face
Again, he meet Edna in battle, his group watching over a rebellious Seifer. Edna frowned at him, as they had been successful in freeing the president from her grasps. Now they were meant to bring her to justice, the people were calling for an execution.
"Hine, is on the sorceresses side, Hine will not allow me to fall to your whims boy!" She shouted while flaring her fan in front of her face to hide a smirk. "Now die!" Edna basically ordered.
"Whatever." Squall found this to upset the sorceress, as she felt ignored. He trudged forward slicing her upper arm which made her drop the fan. In return she flung a heavy firaga spell, which he was pressed to dodge before reassembling a battle plan. Familiar red energy was beginning to envelope him again as she managed to land a thrust of magical energy in his chest.
The impact caused him to skid back a few feet, and knock the wind from his sails. Struggling to regain normal breathing while dodging a fatal strike, the red energy licked at her angrily. Leaving a wide arc slice behind him, he lunge and felt the energy invigorate him. "Renzokuken!" He yelled.
"No!" She denied, trying to move out of the way of his precision strikes.
Resurrected back before the final fallen
Now they’ve arrest until I can make my own way
I’m not afraid of fading
"Hn." He muttered as the strikes gave heavy damage to the sorceresses. She stumbled and finally crashed before him, eyes pleading for mercy. Sparing no seconds, he tied her up and carried her to where the others waited. "Let’s go." He instructed.
Quietly the made their way back to Galbadia Garden. Though, Squall did overlook his restrained passenger, before flicking a curious glance to his once rival. Seifer was also chained and gagged, he was going to be sentenced as well. His eyes happened across Rinoa, who had her face turned away from him. Squall shrugged, he had his orders, Seifer had chosen his way, there was nothing to do now. No matter how different he may feel about the whole thing.
I stand alone
Feeling your sting down inside me
I’m not dying for it
I stand alone
They had escaped! Seifer and the sorceress had escaped death, and that had left him feeling him with a guilty elation. However, there was amass of secrets uncovered. Edna, the sorcesses, was Matron! Did Seifer know, and if so, why didn’t he say anything.
His group was in shock, but he wasn’t allowed to be. No sooner did he land on home soil, did he get ambushed to become leader and confront NORG in the basement of the garden. They had been sent as a sacrifice to soothe the boss of the Balamb Garden. Well, forget it, NORG was doomed to die.
Squall absolutely refused for someone else’s ideal. Especially if it was a twisted, futile ideal at that. So, what if they had attacked the sorceress, she was going to kill them all anyway. No, he and his group was not about to become cannon fodder for a mutinous guardian of the garden.

And now it’s my time (now it’s my time.)
It’s my time to dream (my time to dream.)
Dream of the sky (dream of the sky)
They succeeded against NORG, and Squall had saved the garden from the invading army. For now there was a few seconds peace, and he was going to enjoy it. He actually felt touched at Rinoa’s gesture to make a matching ring to his. Squall also had the secret of his dreams revealed, and his ‘Sis,’ persona returned.
Yes, Squall finally had the freedom he had been looking for, but news interrupted him. However, with a goal in mind, he wasn’t going to let these sorceresses hunters take away and imprison Rinoa without a fight.
Make me believe that this place is invaded
By the poison in me
Help me decide if my fire will burn out
Before you can breathe
Breathe into me
He had saved Rinoa from the cold reaches of space, almost dying with her if not for a cold twist fate. Landing upon a bizarre ship with even strangest creatures, they fought to survive and return to the planet. They were successful, but upon returning home, even more bad news reached him.
Squall had come upon the all or nothing battle, and it was time to end this. He had his doubts, after all, he had nearly killed his friends at one junction or another, but still they followed him. Now he had has love beside his side again, but how long would she remain there? Also, the final sorceress was a powerful one, would Rinoa inherit her powers when they succeeded? If so what would happen to her at that time, what would those powers do to her? Would he be unable to help her in that time, when she would need him most?
He couldn’t think like that, he didn’t have the option. His whole team backed him, including his wayward rival, they rooted for his achievement. For the world needed this success, for it would have its peace. There was no time for doubts, even though they would have been well place.
‘Ultmecia.’

The time compression, it had left him alone. His team was taken out with ease, with just one spell. The sorceress from the future had made sure this would be a battle in her favor. Now it was just him and her, and the powerful potential rising around him in the form of red energy.
"Renzokuken." He whispered, while slashing tiredly. Squall landed several hindering slashes, but it wasn’t over yet. As Ultimecia raised her hands to displace him permanently, he smirked in rebellion. One last strike, just one last strike...

Triumph, he had won, the world at peace and the cycle prevented for the moment. "Heh, whatever." With that he lapsed into unconsciousness, a smirk of victory painted on his face. Gunblade resting across his chest, blood staining the silver blade.
