Shards of Change
I’ve been defeated and brought down
Squall kneeled down watching as the blood dropped down his face, and saw the near identical mark on his rival’s face. Amazingly enough Squall lasted long enough to notice they both fainted at the same time. His body sprawled out as the diagonal slash across his nose leaked blood covering his face in a crimson mask.
Dropped to my knees when hope ran out
He reached out when they yanked Rinoa from him, showing an ounce of weakness. Squall fell to his knees as they swore to seal her away, and his team urged him to retreat. Couldn’t they see that he could not leave her like this, like a useless puppet. They ignored him, and he watched hopelessly as they dragged him away.
The time has come to change my ways
He glared out the large bay window as he thought of his own weakness. Squall had surrendered far to soon, and it was time he showed what really lied behind his frosted heart. The warrior within him demanded to fight and conquer, the scholar within planned situations that could solve his dilemmas. Also his heart began to speak up offering sage advice he would be wise to follow. So he looked to the stars and swore to do so.
On this day, I see clearly, everything has come to life
A bitter place and a broken dream
And we’ll leave it all, leave it all behind
Flicking through his own memories, he blinked at the emotions long since buried. His small five year old self crying against a planed window calling for a family. Squall shook his head and instead focused on the picture in front of him, he was gaining a family, a family of friends. However, his friends haven’t quite made their way to his heart, so he couldn’t claim them as family yet.
I’ll never long for might have been
Regret won’t waste my life again
I won’t look back
I’ll fight to remain:
His gunblade sliced through the air as he sparred with his rival, a smirk settling on his face. Yes, Rinoa left him, but he would not yearn for a true future with her anymore. He had dwelled far too much on his past decisions and life-time circumstances. Squall grinned when Rinoa tackled Seifer causing their spar to halt for the time being. His smiles came more frequently now then every blue moon or so. People now sought him out for guidance, wisdom, and companionship, he wouldn’t fade into the background anymore.
On this day I see clearly everything has come to life
A bitter place and a broken dream
And we’ll leave it all, leave it all behind
"Squall!" He heard his best friend call, and he tilted his head back to glance at Zell. Hurrying next to Zell was his girl friend, soon to be fiancé and he gave a small smile of hello. Sure, he envied his best friend luck and happiness, but what could he do. He ignored the sting of despair at the edge of his conscious, as it cried for his own family and shook Zell’s hand. Squall still had plenty of time to find his heart and soul...
On this day it seems so real to me
Everything has come to life
Squall chucked a small fire spell at his nervous best friend causing Zell to start and yell at him. He merely chuckled into his coat as Zell unwound with small irritation. Blond haired idiot as he was, Zell was finally getting married, and Squall couldn’t be more happy for his friend. Seifer strolled in then, Rinoa latched tightly around his arm, and informed Zell they were waiting for him to get to the alter. Zell yelped and zoomed out of the room while Squall just tilted his head to the others. "Man Leonheart, when are you going to get yourself a girl?" Seifer joked with him. Squall merely shrugged and walked out as he was best man.
Another chance to chase a dream
Another chance to feel
Chance to feel alive
Squall glanced around the new world, sorrow for his long since passed. They had died happy but he was returned to another world to continue his path. However, this time he was not raised alone as the black haired women smiled beseechingly at him. Squall felt a tinge of fire race through his veins as he looked upon her. He was punched lightly in warning by a blond haired man, one hand tapping his large blade for a enforcement. Squall just shrugged his shoulders at Cloud while glancing back at Tifa. "What?" Squall finally questioned the blond haired man. "You have Aerith." He muttered after.
"Nothing." Cloud responded. "Just be careful with her." Was his only remark.
Fear will kill me, all I could be
Lift these sorrows
Let me breathe, could you set me free
Could you set me free
Squall faced a shadow image of Ultimecia alone once more. He had gotten separated from his group when the heartless swarmed them. A niggling of old fear was beginning to swallow him, and flashes of his failures were drowning him in sorrow. "Leon, hang in there!" He heard Tifa’s welcomed voice and the oppressing darkness receded a little. Drawing his blade in a circle he cut down the shadow that represented his greatest nemesis. Though his memories kept pushing the darkness upon him, and he could see his friends falling once more. "Squall!" Tifa shouted to his flailing spirit, and he struggled to free himself.
"Tifa." He returned, and felt warm finger tips through his locks. The darkness inching from him at the light she held within her soul.
On this day I see clearly everything has come to life
A bitter place and a broken dream
And we’ll leave it all behind
On this day its so real to me
Everything has come to life
Squall grinned at his girlfriend of three years, watching as she danced about in the flowers of the garden. He had taken back up his original name as the darkness has been defeated. Not to mention Radiant Garden was finally restore to its former glory, and the worlds once destroyed bloomed again with life. He spun his girl in a circle as he felt his friends watch from a far hill. "Silly girl." Squall murmured in her ear, and she hugged him return.
