Blocking!
Let's talk about blocking! (ex. 1, 2, 3, 4 - by aliasledger, prettybutt, xtine005, & colourmayfade - all from the inspiration post)
Basically, anything with more than two sections and I can't do it at all. I don't really know how to explain what my problem is. I'm just having trouble arranging the caps in a flattering way. For example, either each section is cropped too close and there's too much face, and then they don't look good together, or there's too much background and it's distracting. I can't get the overall shape and flow to look right within the confines of the 100x100. Am I just choosing the wrong caps? How do you normally go about complex blocking icons? How do you decide what arrangement to put the caps in, and how do you make it work?I'd appreciate any tips or descriptions of your process! ♥
I'd also love if people posted their favourite icons with blocking in the comments - I'd love to see more examples of blocking done right! :) I'll go first! This icon by letsey_x is AMAZING:
(It's the most pivotal scene of Ashes to Ashes Series 1, and the whole scene is expressed in six caps, and they all look so good together and are cropped perfectly. There's a reason to put these caps together, it's not just random, and oh my god it is PERFECT)
