WHY IS THE KETTLE COVERED IN ANTS?

Seriously, there are small particles of food - many of them sticky and sugar-based! - all over our less-filthy-than-usual-but-still-dirtier-than-most-people-would-find-acceptable kitchen, but it is the kettle that they were swarming all over. It's an unsubtle hint to you that they want tea and that you're lagging behind and making them late for their day of foraging by not delivering on time.
