The job search continues, thus far without result. But I'm branching out! Today, instead of trawling all the depressing entry-level retail jobs available online, I went for the first two that looked interesting and didn't require prior experience: a front-desk receptionist at a hotel in Ahuriri, and a senior typist position at a girl's school. There's four inches of water in our swimming pool. For the record, we didn't put it there. I skated tonight for the first time since leaving Wellington, and it was glorious. The three of us have all decided to bite the bullet and sign up for the Hawkes Bay derby practices, so this evening Jenni took me down to the waterfront bike path to get my skate-legs back. We started the day with six people in a lime green paddling pool, and it only got better from there.

So my hands are spotted with itchy red pinpricks as if I'm suffering some kind of horrible festive rash, and my back aches because I spent quite literally all day hunched over a coffee table painting pine cones (a simple task, yet deceptively time-consuming), but AT LAST our real, live, fucking prickly tree is decorated. Searching for a job in Napier is, um, difficult. And by difficult I mean basically impossible, which I should have expected what with it having the lowest employment rates in all of New Zealand.
