if I turn back all these clocks, would that be time enough?

Do I lose scene points for liking "Revolutions Per Minute" more than "The Unraveling"? I realize claiming a band's early album as your favorite shows how cool you are and gives you cred for knowing the band before they were humongous, but honestly sometimes it takes a band a couple albums to hit their stride. A lot of bands get better as they go ( Read more... )

I do tend to like bands' older works, generally speaking, but mainly because I just like my punk rock a little unrefined and stripped down to the bare minimum. I dont need a lot of post-production refinement, I like things a little raw and sloppy. For that reason, I was a little perturbed when I heard Rise Against is going to go back and re-master The Unraveling. Its completely unnecessary in my book. They say they're doing it because most of their fans these days have never heard the album, but what does that say about the majority of your fanbase if they arent checking out all your albums? Isnt it fairly normal to seek out the entire discography of your favorite bands?

As far as music goes, I once again look to Gainesville Rock City...

Rehasher - its Roger of LTJ's side project band. Its what LTJ would sound like today if they hadnt tried to get so radio friendly. Listen to "Lift", I know you'll like it.

Grabass Charlestons - I always tell people they remind me of Dillinger Four, but the usual reply is "You mean Dillinger ( ... )

I'm digging Rehasher.

I love Grabass Charlestons, I don't have their newest album though. I pretty much dig everything on No Idea. Gainesville should just make me an honorary citizen or something.

Against Me! is tearing up my stereo. But I don't think I can agree with this generation's Clash statement... I mean... well. Not completely. The Clash were the Clash because they were not just punk rock with folky influences. They were blues, country, and some soul here and there. They pretty much satisfy your every musical need. While Against Me! satisfies most of them, I cannot say they are this generation's Clash... even though I have said it myself.
Mother: What is this band you're going to see tonight?
Me: Against Me!, they are a fantastic punk rock band. Kind of like the Clash for my generation, but not a carbon copy. They're very excellent.

Oh and lots of ska and Sleater-Kinney have been tearing it up. As well as ridiculous amounts of simple average indie rock and some hip hop.

Good point, Against Me! has yet to incorporate all the styles the Clash did. It's nice to see such praise for Against Me! though.

Sleater-Kinney's newest album is insanely good. What ska bands have you been listening to?
