It's innocent, at first. She just wants to watch a movie, and the bookcase offers 'LET THE RIGHT ONE IN'. She's always liked horror movies, liked foreign films too, so she settles in and watches it. By about halfway through, she's got a sick feeling in the pit of her stomach. When it's over, she actually does need to throw up, crouched over the ( Read more... )

Aidan knew that he was spending a lot of time with Martha and Alfie, but he couldn't help himself. Aidan liked spending time with them, he cared deeply about both of them and even though he knew it was a dangerous thing to do, he couldn't help himself. There was no risk of losing control here, no staying the same age while the people he cared about aged and died. Here there was just living.

He couldn't remember the last time he was this happy and not scared to death that he would screw it up because of what he was.

Aidan knocked very lightly on the door before opening it up, conscious of the fact that Alfie or Martha might be sleeping. If they both were, maybe he'd just check on them both and head home. Or, depending on how inviting Martha looked, curl up in bed next to her.

"Anyone awake?" he asked.

"I don't think I'd ever really thought about it before," she says.

Aidan's heart caught in his throat at the sight of the tears on her face and he quickly stepped forward. He didn't have a lot of experience with this sort of thing, helping others deal with their emotions, but whatever was upsetting her he wanted to make it better.

"Thought about what? What's wrong, Martha?"

"You," she says, wiping her face with her hands again, hiding for a moment. Her back stayed rigid. "I haven't really thought any of this through. I thought...I could not think about it. And then I looked at...I watched a movie and I..." she closed her eyes. "Now I can't stop thinking about it."
