She's never been this exhausted. She's been weary before, fallen asleep with her head on a pile of files, but she's never been this tired in her bones. She might actually be close to being in love with Aidan right now, because he's the one who bought her through it, the one who placed her baby into her arms ( Read more... )

Max doesn't actually know this lady. But he had heard there was a new baby like just born, and he can't help but be a little curious. He's never seen a baby that little.

He tries to sneak in as quietly as he can and almost makes it if it weren't for that trash can he almost knocks over. With a loud bang.

He freezes, eyes wide on the lady in the bed.

It's an awful lot of noise and, in her arms, Alfie starts and starts to whine. Martha hushes him, stroking her hand over his head and looking at the little figure in the doorway.

"Hi," she says, waving with her free hand.

"Sorry," he whispers, trying not to edge backwards and run for it. "I wanted to see a baby."

He suddenly, fiercely wishes he wasn't wearing the wolf suit.

"Well, here he is," says Martha, voice gentle and quiet and not just because of Alfie. She holds out her free hand and waggles her fingers. "I'm Martha and this is Alfie and you should definitely come and say hello, young man."

Aidan didn't think he could witness anything better than Martha holding Alfie, looking completely exhausted but so completely in love. He had wanted to be there for the birth, but it had come so quickly that he had ended up delivering Alfie himself. It was one of the greatest moments he'd ever been a part of.

"You both look so happy," he said, stepping into the room. He had stepped out to get cleaned and get her a bite to eat and some water for her to drink. Plus, he had wanted to give Martha some time alone with her son.

She looks up and sees him, smiles broader than she thought possible. Alfie's weight already feels natural in her arms. It's like she's known him her whole life.

"I think he mostly looks full," she says, studying his little face.

"Which probably makes him pretty happy," Aidan said, pulling a chair up beside her and leans in close.

"And you're... beaming. I've seen you happy before, but not like this."

"What can I say? It's having two handsome men in my life," she says, reaching out to touch his jaw with her free hand, the other keeping Alfie snug against her.

"I'm spoiled."

Chase felt that he had to check in on her. After meeting her and seeing the pregnancy progress, he wanted to be there once it hit the natural end. He knocked lightly on the door to announce his entrance, offering a fond smile. "Hey, how are you both doing?"

"We're both doing well," she says, with a flash of a smile, pushing sweaty hair back from her forehead. "Aidan would probably relax a little more if you'd give us a check up, though. Unless you're adverse to being professional right now?"

"Only if you'll let me," he insisted, not wanting to show up only to be a doctor and nothing more. While he would feel good about knowing beyond a doubt that they were both okay, it still wasn't something he wanted to press. "Who's Aidan, then?"

"Boyfriend. He's a nurse. Alfie kind of caught us unawares." She shifts her weight in the bed. "How about you check us both over and then stay for a visit? Best of both worlds?"

"Knock knock. Hey there neighbour," Lois said smiling at the woman and the baby as she stood in the doorway. Lois was used to living in a small town, Smallville was tiny compared to Metropolis but here on the island everyone really did know everyone. And Lois's new neighbour had apparently just given birth to a brand new islander. "And hey there cutey, he's absolutely gorgeous. I'm Lois, I thought I'd come and introduce myself to you both at last."

It's all a little bit overwhelming. For a moment, Martha just sits there, sweaty and revolting with a squirming newborn in her arms. She blinks and shits the baby in her arms.

"Hello, Lois," she says. "I'm Martha. And this is Alfie."

"Sorry, I know I'm a whirlwind and a half. I would've baked you something but honestly you don't want to eat anything I make. Half the time it's burned and the other, well... I tend to leave the cooking to Mrs Kent. Or take out except we don't kind of have that here." Lois said rambling away nervously. There was one thing you could definitely say about Lois was that she certainly made an impression. "Normally people interrupt me by now. How are you settling in to the hut?"

"It's just startling in someone I don't know," says Martha, too tired to be anything but blunt. She tilts her head. "We're settling in well. Well, I'm settling in well. I don't think Alfie's really aware of having a hut yet."

Puck felt kind of weird about going in to see her, so soon, but he'd heard the news and his place wasn't far from hers, so it seemed kind of like a dick move not to at least stop by and bring her flowers.

He'd picked them himself, and Kurt had helped him arrange them so they didn't look like a scraggly bunch of weeds, and when he came to her hut, he hovered just outside the door, knocking softly and clearing his throat.

"Uh, Martha?"

"Hi," she says, looking up when he knocks, a bright, brilliant smile on her flushed, weary face. "I wondered when you were going to show up. Come on. Come meet him."

She smooths one hand over the head of the tiny baby in her arms.

"You ready to meet Puck, baby?"

"I didn't want to, you know, disturb you or whatever."

Quinn had been real tired after the baby had come, and she'd had Beth in a hospital. It had to have been even harder in a frickin' jungle hut.

"Wow, he's so tiny," Puck murmured, standing beside the bed and looking down, his eyes wide with awe.

"He didn't feel tiny earlier," she admits, shifting her weight to make room for him to sit on the bed. "But now he's pretty perfect. Come on. Sit down. Spend some time with us."
