okay. the watchmen. and there's not any real spoilers here.

first off, i've been super excited about this film for a while now. and i knew that i was going to love it. even if it were a bigger piece of crap than waterworld, i was going to love it. and it came nowhere close to waterworld, overall it was great, i don't feel cheated out of my money,

Well, the director's cut is 30 minutes longer, and I don't think that the extra 30 minutes includes The Black Freighter (which will be released on DVD next week, and will be edited into the movie in a 'Black Freighter' edition of Watchmen which is separate from the extended directors cut)

Veidt did mention, as pretty much a throwaway line among a list of other fields, that he was involved in genetic engineering.. but that's really all there is in there (at least in the theatrical cut) to explain Bubastis. Though one could also just accept that at the end of the film he's in full-on Bond-villain mode, complete with animal companion.
