Julius leaned onto the counter and watched the cook stir the batter. “Are you sure Octavian will like it, Diana?”
“Yes, I am positive,” she replied. “My husband likes it very much.”
Julius blushed. “We aren’t married yet.”
“You will be.”
“Maybe someday.” He sighed and looked out the window.
“Julius, come taste this. It is delicious.”
Julius turned and stuck his finger in the bowl. He licked the batter off. “That is good!”
“I told you. Now, run off and tell Master Octavian that his surprise will be ready soon.”
Julius kissed Diana’s cheek and left the kitchen.

“Octavian!” Julius cried. He ran up to Octavian and jumped.
Octavian laughed and caught him. “Someday, I might not catch you.”
“You always will. Come on, your surprise will be ready soon.”
“I’m sure anything you give me will be delightful. What is it that you have for me?”
“You know I can’t tell you that!”
Octavian laughed again. He put Julius over his shoulder and started walking. “I’ll get you to tell me one way or another!”
“I don’t think so!” Julius laughed.
Diana watched them approach the kitchen and smiled.
