Could you plan a 1 - 2 week trip back to the bay area in, say, a month's time and spend that intervening month peppering the place with applications and a cover letter that says in big clear letters "I will be in the Bay Area and available to interview Dates X - Z"?

I understand that's the ideal approach for remote job-hunting, whenever possible... (it's what I did when I was applying for jobs at the Beeb and, hey, I *did* get a call!)
