Fraser’s not quite sure how it happened. He’d taken off the Stetson to let Francesca check his wounds. By the time she’s done fussing, it’s on the other side of the room, atop Ray’s head. It seems right somehow, though a little big.
As Ray’s higher energy pulls him through the crowd, dancing and weaving, Fraser stays still. Every time he glimpses Ray still wearing his hat, he catches himself smiling.
When it’s time to go, he discovers he likes the hat where it is. With all it represents, the hat’s become part of who he is. As has Ray.
