((tl;dr: Just read the last two paragraphs.))

Dairine was having a rough time of it. First, she’d been chased by a dinosaur (and not for the first time). Then, she’d basically made a deal with the Devil. A deal that she didn’t think had been a good idea. Necessarily. She was toeing the line, and she knew it. She needed to get a grip. And so she’d gone back to her room, hoping to have a conversation with her roommate. Not that Vala was necessarily the best person to go to for advice, but she needed someone to talk to besides Spot.

And then it turned out Vala wasn’t there, which was fairly normal. But she didn’t come back that night, which was a bit strange. And then she didn’t come back the next day, or the next. At which point Dairine started to worry, a lot. She sent out a transmission, she started methodically searching the grounds despite the dinosaurs, and she turned up a grand total of nothing.

Sometimes people here just disappeared. She knew that. But she’d never thought that someone she actually really knew, ( ... )

Lucifer heard the small knock at his door, and discerned quickly that it was almost certainly his intended guest. Unless there were more young teenagers around who would knock like that, anyways, which seemed unlikely. She appeared to be something of an exception in that respect.

Not feeling like standing up and interrupting his performance, he simply cast out his attention to the air immediately next to the door, on his side, causing it to agitate and vibrate in such a way as to sound as though he were standing right there and speaking. It was just one word: "Enter."

So she did. Once inside, she looked around, getting her bearings. She wasn't a stranger to the whole bigger-on-the-inside deal, but it still was impressive to see. Especially because in this case he'd altered the castle, which meant that he had to keep sustaining the whole thing some way.

She also appreciated the little trick with the door and the piano, though she didn't comment. Instead, a little voice in her head was pointing out that if she was ever going to say the 'Fairest and Fallen' bit, now was the perfect time.

She didn't go for it. Instead, she said, "Hi."

"And to you as well, Miss Callahan" he replied, somewhat graciously, never looking up from his piano. He was playing his way through Bach's Inventions and Sinfonias, and was presently up to Invention 8. "I trust that you've been keeping yourself busy as I have since last we met?"

He finished Invention 8, glanced briefly over to the girl and inclined his head towards one of the couches. "Feel free to have a seat if you like," and then resumed with Invention 9.
