Hard week: but not over yet

Man, this week has been non-stop intensely focused work and stress. I've had 2 big projects that needed lots of extra time, and then in the middle of the week, one of my colleagues from USC asked me whether I would co-sponsor a new proposal for NASAs "Human and Robotic Technology" research announcement. So I had to drop everything and spend a day

Yikes...how's the neck?

Not too good. It's a complicated story. Briefly, he's got Downs Syndrome, and was (what is called) a "crack" baby. Meaning his mother did crack regularly when he was in utero. He's now 11. Part of the tragedy of his condition is that the spinal vertibrae and disks have a tendency to move, being improperly formed (I think). This happened to him, and he was rushed to the hospital. Now he is in bed with a brace on his upper body to immobilize his head and neck. His right side is semi-paralyzed, but he is slowly getting feeling back into his limbs, so the docs now think that the chances are good that he will return to "normal".

His name is Nick. Since you asked, I'll write about his condition in my journal as it changes.
