Part Deux...
We also checked out the surfing store - which was just really cool (I wish I could make up some more words for how cool and awesome things were!!! Like... it was rufus... or something - lol) Here's some vid - that's really the only way you could appreciate it. $20 for 30 minutes - not bad!!!
We headed to see a movie (Superhero) to kill more time until his flight at 6 pm (from the Sanford airport). It was... meh. Not my kind of movie - but there wasn't anything else playing at the right times! I dropped him off and then headed back to Orlando to go to see Steve Carlson in concert again. I had a lot of trouble finding the place - it's this tiny, scary, hole-in-the-wall place in the middle of downtown. I was a little nervous parking in the garage but decided to head over to the little restaurant on the corner to have dinner before meeting T and her friend, E, for the concert at 8. Now - I don't go to concerts like this - in bars - so I was completely unfamiliar with the procedures. I got my tickets off of ticketmaster and had the printout for will-call, which wasn't open yet. While we were in line, I saw it had opened, so I jumped over and wanted to exchange my printout for a ticket so I could show it to the guy and get in the door. The guy at will-call was like, no, you can't go back in line, I said - well I was just right there with my friends - do you want me to go to the back of the line? He said, I'd rather you just went in. Well then the two guys at the front of the line yelled at me and told me to get back in the line! I was like, well he just told me to go in - the guy was all snotty and said well he was wrong. UGGH. I felt about this > . < big. But.. we finally got in there and planted ourselves in a good spot. The first group was pretty good - it was weird, the one guy was sitting on a box, and used that as the drums basically. Just beating it with his foot and his hand. Interesting concept! But I liked them. Next was Steve - he was just great but it was a short set! BUMMER!!! He stayed around and talked with people - E went up and told him she liked his music. Brave girl! =D T is a HUGE fan and didn't want to go up there. E got some great pics - so she's the photographer here. REALLY up close and personal! We didn't stay for the last two guys - we heard the 3rd guy and he just wasn't doing it for us... and I still had at least an hour drive home... so we took off.
Man - I was exhausted!!! What a weekend! I was so busy - I met up with the guys from the WB group, AS/M/T/T from the MySpace thing, K from another yahoogroup, and met D, someone just randomly at the banquet. I was torn - wanting to hang with everyone but not having enough time! I still didn't get to catch up with some other people from MySpace and the other groups - I was really wanting to meet up with J, who I had met in Gainesville at the Film Fest where we saw TIH. I was really bummed about that - but just didn't get her contact info beforehand. I SUCK!!!
There are so many stories, so many funny things - I wish I could have written them all down so I could remember. This post is already about 8 miles long - I'm sure it would be 10 times that with all the great stories and anecdotes I heard through the weekend. Most definitely the con needs some work - little things that could be done better... but overall it was an awesome experience (go Kenny!) and I'd do it again. To be up close and personal with the fans that much was just amazing. It was so weird to see Jim walking the mall... Steve checking in and out of the hotel... Jared walking through the lobby... Chad and Gabe playing games in the game room.
Anyway - I saw this on the way back from Sanford... go CW!!!
Wow... that was a heck of a convention adventure - especially for my first one! I hope you enjoyed my adventure as much as I did!!! I can't wait to do it again. I'm really hoping I can do Dallas, but I might not be able to since I'm moving at the end of May!!! I'm currently in Kansas looking for a house (no, I'm not *that* much of a fan... lol... I have a job I'm starting in July at K State!) I about squeed when I drove through Lawrence... but had to contain myself because my parents were in the car. GO KAZCON 2009!!! I'm *so* there!!!
I hope to make a vid compilation of everything - but I've been so busy lately. I'm so behind on my personal LJ and mail and am packing up for the move. Will get it done though... fer sure.
Here's the link to the Steve Carlson pics... there's a bunch in there - they are big... up close... and personal. Thanks to E who ran up to the stage to get some great photos!!! =D I'd hope you'd credit me if you use them... but it's all on the honor system, of course.
