Horray for Valentine's Day

I enjoy Valentine's day, more out of amusement than anything. Everyone attaches so much emotional significance to being coupled up on a random mid-February day, but it's a totally pointless choice of date or occasion, entirely fabricated by the candy industry. And the silliest things make people happy today, even though the weather is miserable

Actually, Laura and I went to a proper restaurant which didn't have a special menu on today. In fact, I don't think I've ever been to a restaurant with a special menu (rather than a set menu based on their normal menu).

Personally, I prefer the fact that Lupercalia was celebrated today.

Often, at least here, the set menu is there at the very least so that the chef (or more likely the souschef) can do a lot of prep in advance. It may be two complex entrees off the regular menu but it streamlines the kitchen a lot.
