Who: Elaine and Rahal
What: Elaine finds a new mark.
Where: The lake
"Flail! Flail no!" Rahal burbled as his dragon horse nudged him - said nudge sending him tumbling beneath the lake's water. He swam away a bit and popped up in the shallows, his dragon horse trilling as she floated further out, tail splashing the waters playfully. He huffed, pushing loose strands of his dark blue hair back behind his ears and squeezing. Water trickled down his muscled back, bared to sun since he wore nothing but pale blue swim trunks he'd purchased from the trading post at the beginning of summer for just such occasions. "Don't look so pleased," he called to the dragon horse.
Elaine was out wandering around looking for something interesting to poke her nose into. It was so weird being away from the 14th, but at least she knew most of the people here and the ones she didn’t…nice. She was walking by the lake with her hands clasped casually behind her head, when she heard the noise coming from the water. The sight of the man emerging from the water definitely caught her attention. Entertainment found she went closer to get a ring side seat to the scuffle with what she first assumed from a distance was a lizard.
“It’s hard not too,” she called back as though he had been speaking to her, hips swaying as she strut to the water’s edge.
Raha kept himself from jumping, chiding himself for not sensing or hearing the woman's approach. And what a woman. Rahal normally didn't have any sort of physical attraction to women, but regardless he could appreciate a woman with a great body, and this one had it. It didn't want to make him change his preferences, but admiration came nonetheless. "Hello," he nodded his politely, turning to face her, revealing the toned belly and muscled chest that came from years of military training. "I don't believe we met, Lady...?"
Elaine’s self satisfied expression broadened at the new sight and she shifted her weight to one hip for a perfectly cocky stance. “No, I’d remember you,” she said quickly grading him on her made up scale in her head. “Name’s Elaine. So who are you beside’s wet and wrestling a lizard?”
His lips spread in a natural lady-killer smile, all unbidden. It was like breathing, almost - totally natural and out of his control half the time. "I am Rahal, Lady Elaine, and said lizard is my dragon horse, Flail."
Elaine had seen enough of those smiles directed at her for them to have little effect, except let her know she was winning. What did get to her was the ‘lady’, really she could get used to being addressed so. “Dragon…horse?” she asked at the new term. “Are those the new toys of the dragon knights? It does look more compact that Futch’s dragon.”
A laugh bubbled up from Rahal, pursing his lips and whistling a short little tune. Flail warbled and swam over, stomping through the waters to tower over her rider, eyes blinking at Elaine with something less than pleasure at her presence. "I am a dragon knight, though I doubt the kind you mean. I'm from Falena, and am in the Dragon Calvary. Flail is my partner and mount.”
Elaine took a step back as Flail made her noising entrance. She knew enough about mounts not to tempt them by getting too close until you knew it wasn’t going to bite or trample you. “Another Falenan,” she said absently, trying to ignore the fact that the lizard was staring at her and focus on its rider. “I’ve noticed something,” she said her smirk taking on a more coy appearance. “Can I ask you a question about your country?”
"Of course," the knight stepped back a pace to lay his hand on Flail's hide, stroking the scales and a rumble coming up from the beast. For a moment the lizard turned her head, nuzzling her rider. "What is it you wish to know, Lady?"
Elaine leaned forward with practiced precision to not lower her height too much but to accent her assets just right. “What’s in the water there that makes all its boys so pretty?”
If Rahal had lacked better control over his facial expressions, he might have blushed red, but as it was he just let out another laugh. "Well, I'm not quite sure," he scratched up behind Flail's horn. "Maybe it's all the extra sunshine."
“So you’re saying all of the local boys should go tanning?” Elaine joked back. “I can get behind that.” She had been hoping for a larger reaction out of him, but turning beat red was enough for her purposes.
"As I'm sure all the young men could get behind you returning the favor," he flattered her out of reflex, giving a short crisp whistle when Flail gave him a harder nudge, making him stumble. The dragon horse groaned, shifting her weight and sinking down to sit in the water.
Elaine rolled her shoulders at the compliment, for no other reason then to again display her assets. The movement was lost however when Rahal started stumbling and replaced by a peal of laughter. “Aw,” she asked flirting, “is the horsie jealous?”
Much like a dog senses tone, Flail did the same and snorted, letting a growl bubble up. Rahal gave a helpless shrug, going to Flail's head and touching her behind the neck at the base of skull, the beast quieting. "Forgive her bad manners," he gave a short bow. "The dragon knights have been only exclusive men for so long many of our beasts are unused to the presence of female humans."
“Only men?” Elaine said, a hard tone in her voice that hadn’t been there before. She changed her stance, and though her eyes were still a bit hard, everything else was all about flirting. “That has to be so lonely…just men and a lizard. Sounds terrible.”
"Well, the training camp was at least," Rahal said, not missing the change in stance and a twinge of something uncomfortable squirming in his belly.
“It looks like you’ve been out of training camp for awhile though,” Elaine said, missing any indication that he was uncomfortable. “Unless your extra sun really does nice things to it’s boys.”
"That's a secret I shall keep for myself, Lady Elaine," the knight dodge the question elegantly, his hands moving to caress Flail's horns. "If you don't mind my asking, Lady Elaine, are you from this era or are you a time traveler, like most of us?"
“Nope, this is home sweet home,” Elaine said. She noticed the dodge, but didn’t press further, after all if she made him tell his secret he might want her to tell too. “You haven’t heard of me? You must not know anyone from the 12th, because they definitely would have mentioned us.”
"The 12th?" Rahal asked, mentally going through the files in his head on the people here and what he'd read of this time's history. "Oh, the Harmonian Defense Squads I think they were called. You mean Lady Queen and Geddoe?"
“So you do know them!” Elaine exclaimed, certain that he would know exactly who he was talking with now. “You must have heard about the 14th from them. We’re their ultimate rivals.”
"I'm afraid not," Rahal blinked, pure innocence with his dark blue eyes. "I don't talk much to either, and they don't talk about that part of their lives often, if at all."
Elaine’s eyes flashed again, but returned to normal as she accepted his excuse. “Of course not. They wouldn’t want to admit they were second best after all,” she said, preening.
"I'm sure that's it," Rahal placated her, knowing well enough what could happen if you got a beautiful woman mad. "Perhaps you'd tell me stories of your work sometime." He was just being polite, really.
Elaine was leaned over further, supporting her hands on her knees. He may have just been being polite, but it sure didn’t sound that way to her. “I’d love to,” she said coyly between her painted lips. “I can be really…chatty…after a few rounds.”
"I don't drink," Rahal said, remembering the last time he had been drunk, ending up kissing Culgan right in front of his door. If the man had been any less sober the situation could have gotten a lot worse. "But if you wish to, by all means, Lady Elaine. I can still join you, if you like."
“Not at all?” Elaine asked, actually surprised. “Well, we’ll just have to change that.”
"Alcohol and I do not get along," Rahal assured her. "But as I said, do not make that stop you from enjoying a few drinks over tales."
“Okay,” Elaine relented, or at least pretended to. In her mind she was already determined that there was so no way she would be the only one drinking. “Well, we could always meet in the tavern after you’ve dried off a bit, or if you don’t want to be around the temptation I have a room at the inn.”
"The tavern is fine, Lady Elaine," Rahal said quickly, now understanding the weird feeling. She was flirting with him, and it wasn't that she wasn't pretty, he just... well, he could never imagine himself flirting back - at least on purpose.
“Great!” Elaine said standing straight again. “I’ll meet you there later. You don’t need to change…but how about you leave the dragon in its pen. It’ll just be us.”
"That sounds fine," he agreed, though he wondered what he was really getting into now. "Then if you'll excuse me I'll take Flail to dry off and be fed. I shall meet you in two hours?" he suggested.
“See you there,” Elaine said with a wink. She turned around, deciding he’d had enough of the front view and it was time for a back shot as she left. “Maybe we’ll even find something you like to drink,” she suggested over her shoulder. “Later.” She waved her hand absently over her head and strut off the beach pleased at how easy it had been to find company for the night.
