fabric woes

I'd picked up some fabric placemats at the 2nd hand store a while back because the fabric was really cool. And for $2, I basically get enough fabric for 1 large doll outfit. Hard to beat that bang for your buck. I needed to iron the placements as there were some serious creases in them. Go to iron them and it's like part of the fabric melted! I ( Read more... )

Wonder if they forgot to put the backing material on and used fusible facing.

That sucks though.

I honestly thought it was just stiffener because it was a placemat. Whatever it was, I don't think it'd be wise to use the fabric on my dolls as the last thing I'd want is the material sticking to the resin or marking it in some way. That sucks but it was only $2.

Can you steam the creases out of the material? If the iron is too hot, maybe some steam might help? That's too bad that it sort of melted when you tried to iron them, at least they didn't cost an arm and a leg though.

The fabric is quite stiff so I don't think steam would do the trick. It wouldn't hurt to try though. Funny enough, the fabric I have left is pink (and you know I hate pink) and I'd like to be able to use it as I think it'll suite one of my guys.

I've gotten quite a bit of fabric from the 2nd hand store for barely any money. Buying fabric at the fabric store is often crazy expensive even though I'm only getting either 1/4 or maybe 1/2 a meter. I'd bought some really cool fabric once and only got 1/2 meter and it was still $6 and it was only $6 because the stuff was on sale for 50% off.

$6 isn't a lot of cash but for the same amount of money, I once got an entire table cloth of icy blue with brushed satin snowflakes. Not a thing wrong with it either and it's like... 5 times the material.
