Amazing generosity of a friend
I think I'd posted about a doll I was finally able to get my hot little hands on last year. *cue flashback music & graphics*
ImpleDoll Miguel The Demon Hunter was released 8 years ago and there were only 100 of him available. I fell in love with him immediately but didn't have the money then to buy him. Even so, he became the basis for the character Orajin from my novella, Slip Of The Tongue. His lover, Ivriah, was based off the Unidoll Ark sculpt, another doll that I couldn't afford at the time. Unidoll folded and the sculpt became extremely hard to find. Both these dolls became my "grails" i.e. dolls that are extremely difficult or even impossible to obtain (like the holy grail).
Last year I saw a Miguel for sale in the MP on DoA. He was in the required grey skin I needed. However, his right forearm and hand had been replaced with a mecha arm and the original parts lost. He was also spraypainted with black acrylic paint. His price was deeply discounted because of these things. I bought him and after 26 hours worth of scrubbing, I'd removed all the paint. I was over the moon. I changed his character because there was very little hope of ever finding an Ark in white skin with his special ears. He became Mkhai, God of Weaponry & Warfare, Supreme Commander of the Immortal Army.
About a week after I finished cleaning him, an Ark pops up in the MP *groans*. I didn't have the money for him having just purchased a doll and the price was more than I thought should be asked even for as rare a sculpt as he was. I lamented to my friends about how the dolly gods were taunting me, but that I had decided to let go of the sculpt/character and I was okay with that.
Back in present day.... I got an email from Lilly saying to B.O.L.O. a package incoming. She said she'd bought me a gift for Xmas but didn't get the chance to send it out due to some health issues right around then, but it was on its way to me now. I checked tracking and it had already cleared Customs. I picked up the package after work yesterday thinking I'd be getting a box no bigger than a shoebox. Only it was a huge box and the declaration form said doll.
Uhhh, what? I had no idea what doll would be in the box. I couldn't think of any doll that she would buy me. Got home, opened the box and just stared for like a minute at the Unidoll logo on the box. She bought me the Ark that had been for sale in the MP. He's got the original default Unidoll face-up, is white skin and has both human and pointed ears. He's a gorgeous, grumpy doll.
So I now have both my grails. I'm beyond thrilled. And so very grateful to have amazing and generous friends like Lilly. The Ark will not be the same character (Ivriah) but he will end up being Mkhai's lover. It tickles me silly to have them back together as lovers even though they are different characters. I don't have a name yet for the Ark and I'm once more (still?) on a wig hunt for him (of course none of the wigs I have work for him *sigh*). He has nice eyes in his head but I'll likely change them out. Not sure to what yet. I have a bunch of eyes to test out as well as some DIY eyes that I could make for him. I'll need to tighten/re-string his arms, too, as they're quite floppy, but that's minor.
I'd love to take him in to work today, but I didn't have the chance to hunt up some clothes for him yet. That's on my list to do as well as sort through my eyes for him. I can plunk a wig on his head so he's not bald, but he was quite disapproving of the ones I have in his size.
