Jinki got up early in the morning and after taking shower very fast, he sat on the chair and made a plan of the day. It was his tradition. Every morning he would plan out the day, and make sure everything would go according to his plan.
First, he had to meet with person from headquarters, and get his mission, money and documents. Then, he had to find an apartment and make it usable, because he was going move in there for a long time. And finally, he had to get his bag back.
“Good morning, sir” greeted him one of hotel workers, opening door for him.
Black car with toned windows was waiting for him. Once he got in the car someone shoveled a piece of paper into his hand. “Don’t talk with anybody, unless they say password. Now, you’ll be taken to the centre and receive all things you need. Keep your mouth shut. ” was written in mixed 5 different languages.
40 minutes later they arrived to some place. Young girl in black suit took him to the office, where Jinki finally met his friend, mentor and uncle, Lee Byung Hun.
“Long time since I’ve seen you last time. You’ve grown up” he was hugging Jinki.”Let’s get over with formalities, then we can talk. I’m sure you have a lot to say me, don’t you?”
“Ne, uncle.” Jinki had missed his uncle, and was ready to hug him till suffocating him, but work always comes first, at least his work.
“Time flies by… Time already came. How long it has been?” murmured Byung Hun to Jinki, covering face with hands.
“9 years, uncle, 2 months and 4 days.” It was painful for Jinki to remember everything. Everything what happened after, but nothing was in his memory from before.
It has been 9 years since Lee Jinki has lost his memory after big air crash, and he was one of the only two people who survived that crash. 9 years ago his Mom told him that his dad was killed. Korean government didn’t want him leave the country and work for the US, so they decided to just eliminate him, but because of the miscalculations the whole plane crashed. That was what his mother told him.
After the tragedy, Jinki had traumas with which for 12 years old boy it was impossible to survive. All doctors who had seen him predicted him to die within an hour, then within a day, then within a week, then a month, then a year, but Jinki didn’t die. And life proved to be unpredictable, even for doctors with PhD’s.
Two years doctors fought for his life, and after he finally got back on his feet, he decided to make the people, who killed so many, harmless and guiltless people, pay for what they’ve done. He promised his Dad that he would make all his killers suffer.
Back in time
Children St. Elizabeth hospital in Boston. It was very dark in the room. On the bed 13 years old boy was sleeping. Suddenly he woke up, screaming. He had the same dream almost for one year: falling plane, and light, and feeling being empty after the loss.
In the morning his mom as usually brought breakfast. He ate, then cried with his mom about dad, about broken body, about all the pain he was going to feel today during the rehabilitation procedures, tests and examination.
He was broken in 40 places, his lungs were burned, and he had to take incredible amount of medicine, shots and IV’s in order to get lungs get better. Even though it has been almost a year after crash, his body was still recovering, and no one was sure if he would recover fully. Good thing was that by some miracle his spine and neck weren’t broken, so he definitely would walk.
After a year, in summer of 2004, 14 year old boy went out of the St. Peter hospital in Arizona. It was his 15th hospital he has been in last 2 years and the last one. Lee Jinki had fully recovered.
The first thing he has done after he went out of the hospital was going to his Dad’s grave, and made a promise. He kneeled down and cried, “Appa, look, I came. I survived. I’m not sick anymore. I can walk. I can eat. I can do everything by myself. Daddy, but you’re not here with me. I miss you… I love you, Dad. I promise you, I’ll make all of them pay for your life. They’ll pay for taking you from my life. They took not just took you away, but also took you away from my memories. I’m sorry dad for not remembering. Dad, I’m sorry… I PROMISE!... I promise….” Small boy cried for long time, and fell asleep.
When he woke up he was determined what he had to do. He started learning teak won do, he entered the best schools of Boston, and learned 3 different languages by himself. He attended all possible extracurricular activities, and was the best in everything. And when in his sophomore year in high school the principal invited police officers to give a small speech and show few moves to students interested in working in police area, he knew what he would do next.
He looked up who else’s family had died in the crash. In one of the news papers he saw that American officer’s family also died. Once seeing it, Jinki researched officers address and met up with him. He asked for help, he pleaded to train him. Officer agreed. He brought Jinki to his friend, special agent of FBI. And they started training. To make him a special spy.
After one year of training one officer came up to him and said that he knew his dad. Also, he knew who and why killed his dad. And he promised him to help with his revenge, because his dad was to that agent as brother. Now, they were family, uncle and nephew.
Two more years they trained. Jinki was the best trainee. No one could beat him in anything, because his heart was burning with hatred toward his dad’s killers. He never let anyone close to himself, no one except his mom and uncle.
When he turned 19 his uncle failed one mission and had to hide, but his mentor had promised that his uncle would help him with his mission.
When he turned 21, and fully became an adult n the US, he was ready for his first mission. After that he could look for his dad’s killers.
A week after his birthday, Lee Jinki took airplane to the Seoul, South Korea.
Back to present
“First, Jinki, no one can know your real name, so, you are becoming Kim Bum.” His uncle was looking very seriously at him.
“Did you just make up that name? I should say that’s not even funny” Jinki pouted at his uncle. Uncle was the only person who has ever seen him pouting.
“No, Kim Bum is the real person. He is our agent, but he got wounded on a mission, now he’s back in US. So, it’s easier to have the real documents. Here is the file with his information. You look alike. And he lived in Kyundoki, so no one knew him in Seoul, if that’s your question”
Jinki was about to ask if someone was going to recognize him, but uncle already answered to that. “No, just the thing is what my mission is.”
“You have to find the son of the former Korean mafia’s head. He gave up information about drug dealers, mafia, money, about everything he knew, and he knew a lot, to the US agents. Currently, we got information that his son didn’t die in crash. And now, there’s information that his life is under big danger. Korean mafia wants to find and use him as a weapon, for his father’s sins. He’s under the US Witnesses Protection Program. And your first mission is find him first, and alive, and preferably unhurt,” finished Byung Hun.
“Understood. When I’ll get information about him?”
“Tomorrow, I’ll meet you here” pointed his finger Byung Hun at the map. ”No one should know your real name, and you should get an apartment ASAP. One more thing, get a GPS, so you won’t be lost all the time” lightly laughed uncle.
“Ok, I’ll. What about the money? I need to get a car” asked Jinki.
“Oh, I forgot. Here is money for the beginning. And this is money and other fake documents for emergencies. And money for your later use, here’s your bank account number. It’ll always have money. Find a place to put your emergency kit in available place. And I think you should get going,” quietly finished his uncle. “Here is your cell phone, number 3333 on speed dial is me. Any questions?”
“No, I’ll take my leave” smiled Jinki back. “I missed you, Lee Byung Hun.” he took all from Byung Hun and walked out of the room.
“You can’t fail, Jinki-ah…” murmured his uncle when Jinki had already left the room ”You can’t….”
