[one-shot] A little domestic crisis

Shige does not do chores. That was the one thing he set his foot to when he finally relented into moving in with Ryo. The older man had done everything to get Shige to live under the same roof with him. First he had just asked, but upon rejection he had bribed and blackmailed Shige. As the last straw, though he wouldn’t admit it, begged.

The sight of Ryo begging him had been too much for Shige and he had given in. And as no chores was his only condition, Ryo had been more than happy to oblige, figuring that Shige would need the time to get on with his studying. Anyway, he had done all the chores by himself for many years now. It wouldn’t change his life in anyway, would it? Shige on the other hand knew he would have to do some chores while Ryo was in Osaka. Or he could go home, his mother would surely take care of him.

Two weeks into their joined life, Shige started to feel really at home and settled in in Ryo’s spacious apartment. Up until now, Ryo had kept his end of the bargain, and Shige had been free of the chores. But unlike Ryo’s original thought, Shige rarely spent the time he used to take care of their home studying. Sometimes Shige watched TV or played guitar in the living room, and rarely he actually did study. Mostly he stayed in the kitchen watching as Ryo moved around cleaning or washing the dishes or cooking. That was what fueled Ryo’s anger and frustration the most.

One day, after dinner, Ryo decided that he had had enough.

“Shige, goddammit, you can’t expect me to do everything for you for the rest of our lives! It just doesn’t work like that,” Ryo’s voice hitched up a notch with every word he spoke. Shige blinked at Ryo’s unexpected outburst. He just stared at the man standing in front of him.

Ryo seemed to be really furious. He had practically thrown the plate he had been drying back into the sink; Shige was sure that it was now in pieces. The towel Ryo had been using was now scrunched violently in his hand.

“Ryo, I-“ Shige started, but was cut off by Ryo.

“DID YOU THINK THAT IF YOU STAYED AT HOME YOUR MOTHER WOULD DO EVERYTHING FOR YOU FOREVER?” Ryo was now yelling at the younger man. “GUESS WHAT? IT-DOES-NOT-WORK-LIKE-THAT!” Ryo yelled at the top of his lungs, emphasizing each word. With that he threw the towel on the floor and walked into the bedroom slamming the door behind him.

Shige looked at the door and blinked a few more times. Then he turned his gaze to the towel on the floor. Sighing, he picked it up and picked uo the cloth. He went to the sink and stuck his hand in blindly in the water, confirming his assumption on the broken plate when he felt something cut deep in to his hand.

He hissed as withdrew his hand quickly and looked at the dark red liquid dripping from the wound. He pressed the white towel on the wound and put his other hand in to the water more carefully this time to pick out the pieces of porcelain.

He decided that as much chaos it would cause, it was time to back out. So he picked up and dried the remaining artifacts in the sink. Everything went well, until he came upon the last glass. The slippery object slipped through his hand and crashed on the floor, creating the trouble Shige had dreaded.

Ryo had been venting his anger out on a pillow in the bedroom. He loved Shige probably more than his own life, but this was starting to be too much. And if after only a few weeks they were fighting over chores, then what would they be fighting about after a few months? Ryo was drawn out of his thoughts when he heard something break in the kitchen. Alarmed, he ran in to the kitchen. He found Shige standing in the middle of the room looking at the remains of the glass on the floor, an obviously bloodstained towel tied around his hand and silent tears rolling down his cheeks. When he heard Ryo’s steps entering the kitchen, he looked up.

“See?” He asked in a bitter tone before running past Ryo and in to the bathroom. Once he had closed and locked the door behind him, he broke down completely. He fell on the floor forming a small bundle of long limbs thrown together.

Ryo, after getting over the shock of seeing Shige’s tear-stained face, ran to the bathroom door, only to find it locked. He could feel the tears forming in his eyes too.

“Shige…” He said softly, trying to coax the other to come out. When he got no answer, he swallowed the lump in his throat before speaking up again. “Shige, come on… This isn’t worth fighting, ne? Please, open the door, Shige,” Ryo pleaded, the tears were now flowing freely.

Ryo was never a patience person in this kind of situation. He just wanted to get rid of it as soon as possible. So now his patience was running thin, if he had any to begin with. He knew that snapping at the younger one was one of the worst decisions of his life, especially when he had been the one to accept Shige’s terms. It had been stupid, but what’s done is done.

“Shigeaki, open the damn door,” Ryo said with frustration evident in his voice. This made Shige get up slowly and gather his belongings from the room. Tears were still rolling down his cheeks when he opened the door. Ryo engulfed Shige into a tight hug the second he steps through the door. It’s only when he pulls back a little to look at the other’s face he notices the toilet bag Shige was carrying.

“Shige…” He swallowed nervously trying to find his voice again. “What… are you doing?” He asked in a small voice while taking a step back. Was he going to lose Shige over a stupid fight about chores “No, please, no,” Ryo prayed silently.

Shige had been looking at the floor for quite a while now. When he finally looked up, he was a bit surprised to see that Ryo was crying now, too.

“I- You deserve someone better than me. Someone… Someone who can help you with the chores without causing a chaos like me,” Shige replied, looking away from Ryo. Ryo was dumbfounded. Someone who could help him with the chores? Ryo blinked.

“What the hell is that s’posed to mean?” He asked. Shige looked into his eyes for a moment before answering.

“ISN’T IT OBVIOUS? I CAN’T DO ANYTHING!” He yelled and then continued with a voice that was barely a whisper. “ I can’t cook, I can’t obviously wash the dishes, I can’t do the laundry… I can’t even sing or dance. I don’t know why I’m in NEWS, I obviously don’t belong,” he finished looking at everything but Ryo.

Ryo stepped closer again and pulled Shige into a loose embrace.

“What are you talking about? You can learn to cook and do the dishes and laundry. It’s alright if you can’t do those things yet, it’s normal. When I moved here I practically lived on instant ramen, because it was all I could do. And you definitely belong in NEWS, we wouldn’t be who we are now without you,” Ryo said in to his ear. Shige pushed him away.

“NO! All those insults you used to throw at me, they were all true, I deserved each one of them!” Shige yelled.

“We’re really back to that?” Ryo blurted out stunned. “How many times do I have to tell you I didn’t mean any of it? I fell in love with you the second we were introduced and felt threatened by the fact that you wouldn’t return my feelings and covered it childishly. I love you now more than I loved you back then, I love you more than anything. And I probably will ‘till the end of time,” he confessed while moving closer to Shige who was now sobbing on the floor. When he put his hands around the younger man, Shige leaned in to his embrace and Ryo knew everything would be alright again.

“I love you, too,” the words were quiet and muffled by the sobbing and the fact that Shige had his face pressed against Ryo’s chest. Despite that, Ryo heard them clearly and pulled Shige even closer.

“Hey, why don’t we go take care of the kitchen now, together,” Ryo asked softly. He was answered with a small nod before Shige pulled himself into a sitting position and wiped away the tears. His face was red from all the crying. He looked at Ryo who was in a very much similar state and reached out to wipe away his tears.

Ryo stood up and pulled Shige up behind him. They walked in to the kitchen holding hands. Ryo cleaned the glass from the floor while Shige placed the plate and glass that had survived their outing into the closet. Once he was done he turned to watch Ryo carefully picking up the glass.

“Ryo, I’m sorry. I was just scared, I didn’t want you to know how useless I was around the house…” Shige said, actually sounding quite calm finally. Ryo placed the glass in to the trashcan and went beside Shige.

“You’re not useless. Never ever say that. You’re just… inexperienced. I seriously couldn’t do anything when I moved here. I called Pi probably ten times a day for help,” Ryo said with a chuckle. Shige let out a small laugh, too, and made Ryo smile. “Now, what happened to your hand?” Ryo asked while he took Shige’s injured hand into his. He carefully removed the towel and dropped it in the sink.

“I cut it while picking up the pieces of the plate from the sink,” Shige said quietly. Ryo looked at the wound and swallowed once again.

“Shige, I’m really sorry, too. I shouldn’t have yelled at you. All this, we could have settled it without this stupid fight. And this too,” Ryo said. Then he showered the wound with light butterfly kisses before cleaning it under the water. He grabbed a bandage from one of the drawers and put it on Shige’s hand.

Once Shige’s hand had been taken care of, Ryo placed a small kiss on Shige’s lips, then another. They stayed in the kitchen for a long time kissing and giggling, though neither one of them would afterwards admit to the latter. Who cares about a little domestical crisis, when the they would kiss and make up, and wake up tangled in each other’s limbs the next morning?
