[#025] Laughter

Aug 30, 2009 19:49

Kame thinks it’s funny how something so small can have such a huge impact on him. Three years ago he wouldn’t have thought anything of it but, now, now it’s weird, he thinks. How his laughter makes his day better, makes him want to laugh too.

Kame and Jin used to be best friends, but slowly they drifted away and now the more appropriate term is colleagues. Still, whenever Kame’s having a hard day and he walks into their dressing room and hears Jin laughing at something, it makes him feel a little better. Sometimes, he wishes he would know the reason of the laughter, but mostly he just enjoys the beautiful sound, lets it take his stress away as he slowly drifts to sleep just for a few minutes.

Then there are those days when he walks in the dressing room and finds Jin sitting there on his own, and Kame feels a little disappointed when he isn’t laughing. But then Jin looks up from his magazine and smiles at him, and it’s enough. Kame feels the warmth spreading in him as he sits down on other sofa, just sinks into the soft cushions and listens to Jin humming under his breath. Later on he wakes up to Jin’s laughter and Kame thinks he couldn’t feel any better.

Kame still wishes sometimes that Jin and he could be friends like they used to, he thinks it’s only natural to want to have a good relationship with someone he works with on a daily basis. But even with that said he doesn’t make a move when he wakes up on the dressing room couch, just watches Jin and the rest of his group with a smile lingering on his lips, eyelids heavy, almost closed still.

Ten minutes later, when the clock is ticking nearer the time when they’re supposed to be in a photoshoot, Kame’s still pretending to sleep. Jin sits down next to him as the others are already leaving. Jin shakes the Kame’s shoulder gently and smiles brightly at him when he reluctantly opens his eyes again. Once he he’s more adjusted to the brightness, he belatedly realizes it isn’t the lights that are bright, but Jin’s smile. When Kame finally smiles back at Jin, the older laughs softly and tells him to get up or they’ll be late before tugging him up.

***

For all the years Jin has known Kame, the younger man’s laughter has been one of the forces that have kept him going. Kame isn’t as open as Jin is and therefore laughs a lot less than the older man. When they were younger, Jin didn’t think much of it, because when it was just the two of them, Kame laughed openly with him or more often than not, at him.

Nowadays Jin thinks it’s Kame’s work that keeps him from laughing. He has become much more open and free during these past years, but he’s work is making him so stressed and tired that the energy to laugh honestly is rather lost on Kame.

So sometime Jin hopes that Kame would work less, and Jin would have a possibility to hear his laughter again. They aren’t friends anymore, more like acquaintances, and Jin doesn’t get to see that side of the younger man anymore.

But then again, when ever Kame finishes his work, there’s a slight, tired, satisfied smile playing in the corners of his lips and Jin thinks it’s alright as long as Kame loves his work.

Jin laughs a lot, he knows that much. And he keeps laughing because when Kame walks in the room, tired and stressed he seems to relax when Jin’s there, laughing, or even just smiling. Jin likes to think it’s him who makes feel Kame better, more relaxed.

So even if they aren’t friends anymore, Jin makes it a point to smile at Kame, and not just in hopes of getting one back, but to just make the other happy.
