"Except that everyone in the story is a dragon, red in tooth and claw..."

Well, gee. I have all these exciting things to tell you about my Halloween weekend, but knowing me, it will take me until at least tomorrow to get a chance to write them up properly, so I might as well post the things I’d already mostly written about from before-then.

The Wednesday before last I saw Ministry, which was grand. Well, first I failed ( Read more... )

And is this a problem, or an extra special bonus? :)

I love when you go out of your way to find one of the few bands from Cincinnati anyone has ever heard of, and then insult them. It really warms my heart.

Jesus, woman, must you always take everything so personally? I mean, do you even actually like the Tigerlilies? Before last week, I'd never heard them before, let alone knowing what city they were from. So I listened to some of the clips on AMG and got bored pretty quickly. But if you think there's some hidden brilliance that I'm missing, then send me some MP3s and I'll happily reevaluate.

But if you don't actually like them, and you're just defending them for the city they come from, well, why? I mean, I desperately touted a band from Ohio in my last entry, so it's not like I have some hidden agenda against your state. Besides which, the bands from any city that people "have heard of" are often no better that the bands that they haven't. I hope you know I know better than to judge Cincinnati's entire musical output on the basis of one band that happens to be less interesting than a band they share a name with.

In conclusion: would you please chill out? :)

Actually, I've never heard the Tigerlilies. But I have heard OF them a lot. And, honestly, I could care less about bands from Cleveland. But I see you your point.
I am attempting to chill out. Hopefully it'll get easier once everything in sight starts freezing over. Hell possibly included.

(way to be listening to the Dresden Dolls)

Not only that, but I saw them live! And I ordered their albums about three weeks ago, and would have them by now, if not for the sheer incompetence of the company that fulfils their web orders. Told you I was still evaluating. :)

If you’ve not yet heard of Tooth and Claw, you must at least read the book description, which will tell you immediately how badly you need to read the book.

OK, I'll bite :) Heck, I'll read anything once. I don't usually go for high fantasy, but I'm happy to read a novel that tries to do something different, which this certainly is. I'll suggest it for my reading group this week.

And I'm going to have to get a copy of the current Locus. I'm very amused that your picture has been published in a widely-circulated magazine, considering how hard it is to get a photo of you. Apparently I just need to wait until you're fake-drunk and/or distracted.

It's not high fantasy, at least as I conceive of the term. More like light Victorian fantasy-of-manners.

Anyway. Don't buy the issue just for that! It would be totally silly. Besides which, I don't even think this was the first time I've been in Locus (I feel like I remember a picture being printed after last year's SFWA reception, but if so it wasn't very good). It's just hard to turn people down for pictures when they're from magazines. :P

Right--I just read a review of Tooth and Claw in the June issue of F&SF (I am so far behind!) and I am definitely going to read it. Thanks for bringing it to my attention :)
