Your teeth hurting may have something to do with them stabbing you with a metal spike. When ever I get my teeth cleaned it feels like they shift but I think its psychological.

Well, the extreme pain was probably on account of not getting my teeth cleaned in like 10 years because I never had dental insurance until now, so they had to scrape years of gunk off my teeth, I guess.

Well, if you brush and floss regularly, it shouldn't be like they are scrapping off 10 years of junk. Maybe the dentist/technician (I've never actually had an actual dentist clean my teeth) was just mean or having a bad day. You might also have sensitive teeth, which results in something that shouldn't usually hurt, hurting. *shrug*
