Life is peaceful

For only the second time, during this introspective year in Birmingham, I walked the 150 feet to the beautiful park across from the Oxmoor Box.
I have followed some wonderful advice, to pick an easy read, to try to get back into that once, so beloved, hobby and book addiction.  And so, I've chosen.
I got into bed early last night (not hard, after ( Read more... )

Yeah.
As soon as I took it out of the house it attracted comments like it was naked & wearing bells and whistles!!

Oh sweet jesus I love that book. I wish I'd gotten to read it during my big heartbreak 2 years ago. It's like a little paperback epiphany.

I'll recommend a couple more:

Self-Made Man
This is a lesbian who decided to live as a man for a year--not for gender identity reasons, but to understand men better. My only complaint is that her newfound compassion for men sometimes bordered on pity. But it's a great page turner.

A Year of Biblical Living
This dude decided to follow the bible literally for a year. He's so very likable, you can't help but grin at the visual of him in a tasseled robe and bushy beard asking the "adulterer" on the park bench if he could please throw a pebble at him, because of that whole stoning adulterers law..

The Kindness of Strangers
I just finished this--it's a travel anthology about people who were helped by strangers while traveling. Some of the situations are fun and light-hearted, some very very serious. Quick read.

Ooooo, why thank you sweet gypsy!!!
I love recommendations!
Yeah, lots of people have talked about how the sad beginning is so hard- WELL- NOT IF YOU'VE BEEN THERE, DONE THAT.
Sorry to hear about your heartbreak, dear.

Yeah if you read "on the floor in a ball crying" and you've done that too, it's not sad, you're just glad to know other people react that way too and you're not crazy.

No sorry about heartbreak--it happened for a good reason, better things around the corner!

Love this.

That park sounds like the perfect kind of backdrop for that book. Just finding the right place to read (even a few pages) can enhance a book so much more than usual.

It all sounds so wonderful and full of life. Take lots and lots and looooots of pictures when you go back! And I'm glad you're enjoying the book! Proof that books can be easy to read, but not lack any substance or emotional impact.

Glad you liked it.
I will really work to put pix in my posts. It just makes them so much more fun and exciting. I LOVE it when people do it in theirs, there's no excuse to not do it in mine.
And thanks again for the good -easy-reading- advice.
Appreciatecha!
