What happens when a blind person who needs a seeing-eye dog... is allergic to dogs??

They find a seeing eye (insert other animal here). My Cousin wants a trained monkey to do things for him, but he isn't blind. He is a quadraplegic(sp?). Aperantly you can train anything these days. Or hey, what about just shaving the dog??!??
