"I don't know where I'm going
But can you guide me?"

He can't see the forest for the trees. He is surrounded. Lost. Where usually he sees a path, there is darkness closing in on him, menacing, black.
He can feel his heart in his throat.
Where is he?
Which way should he go?
Where is his usual way out? His usual path?
A lone figure walking towards him catches his eye and startles him. He squints at it, watches it, until it comes into focus.
Inara.
He swallows. Narrows his eyes in confusion. Waits until she is close enough to reach out and touch.
"Inara," he says. He hopes she can't hear the desperation in his voice. "Which way do I go?"
She looks at him and a smile crosses her face. "You're asking me for guidance now?" she taunts. "Interesting."
"Which way?" he repeats.
"Where are you going?"
His eyes widen in realisation. His mouth feels dry. "I...don't know."
"Then I can't help you." Inara turns and leaves the way she came, before he can so much as open his mouth to argue.
He stares after her. "What?"
He glances around him once more and then shrugging, makes up his mind.
He follows her.
