Innocent Deduction
Naruto sighed while leaning against the hardtop wooden counter at the store. Ino stood beside him talking his ear off while professionally arranging a group of light colored flowers. He had lost interest in the conversation a long time ago and flicked a glance at the clock. Time was going so slow, he took to crossing his ankles and uncrossing them just to keep himself active. Okay, so it is personally known that there could be worst D missions then spending a day tending the Yamanaka shop with Ino.
However, Naruto was an active person, he needed to be constantly moving because of all the energy melded into his body. Standing behind a counter of a flower store on a slow day wasn’t his idea of a mission. Naruto mindlessly thought when lunch came around that maybe he should ask if Ino would care for a spar. Sadly he wished he could have passed his chunin exams then he would never see a D ranked mission again.
Oh do not get him wrong, the D rank mission had its pros besides team work with another of the Rookie nine, well they really couldn’t be called that anymore either. It worked on his patience if nothing else, and it allowed the villagers to see him in a nice environment. Yes, he was winning their respect for his accolades and what he had done to save them, but it was still a frightening aspect to them that the supposed ‘demon fox,’ was a ninja. The only other thing that could be said for this mission is that it did help expand his knowledge on one of his hidden hobbies, but it was still so boring.
“So Naruto?” Ino’s prodding voice shook him out of his heavy fog.
“Eh?” He questioned, hopping he would not get socked on his head today. His wish did not come true as Ino laid a sounding slap on the back of his head before reiterating her small bit of conversation.
“So what do you think of Temari?” Ino asked while a sly smile started to spread.
“She’s Gaara’s sister, what should I think of her?” Naruto responded, and ducked the punch aimed for his head. “Fine, she’s a fairly nice girl.” He answered wondering why he was having this conversation.
“What about Tenten?” She inquired.
“Neji’s teammate?” Naruto responded.
“Yes.” Ino gritted.
“She’s very determine and proficient with her weapons.” Naruto answered while rubbing a phantom pain on his arm.
“Your thoughts on Sakura?” Ino’s tone confused him along with the question, everyone knew what he thought about Sakura.
“Sakura-chan is very strong now, pretty, and is probably worthy of Sasuke now.” Naruto stated flicking his eyes around the store, hoping for a customer to intrude.
“What about me?” She asked while laying a hand on her breast.
“Well, I haven’t interacted with you to much.” Naruto responded and quickly gulped at the rising anger on her face. “However, you’re pretty as well and very motivated.” He stated and he zoned out missing a growing smirk on the blondes’ face. His eyes latched onto a white star-shaped flower, his mind took to wandering.
“What about Hinata?” Ino inquired slyly, her blue orbs sliding to the very corners of her eyes.
“What about Hinata-chan?” Naruto returned back, not really paying attention to Ino. Slowly he made his way over to the flower and picked it up gently.
“Oh, its Hinata-chan now?” Ino mimicked, and Naruto’s semi-glazed eyes moved to her.
“What are you going on about?” He asked, spinning the flower in his hands.
“Well, what do you think about Hinata?” Ino asked again, hiding a small notebook in her hands and giggling slightly.
“Hmm, well like you and Tenten I haven’t spent a lot of time around her.” Naruto murmured, twirling the blossom in his hand. “In fact we’ve just begun to interact with one another, as the Hyuuga clan is still very wary of me.” Naruto uttered, while sighing. Ino blinked at the admission, and at any other time she would hop onto that bit of gossip like a dog to a bone. However, right now she was in a competition to match up Hinata and Naruto before Sakura so she just kept quiet.
“However, from what I can tell Hinata possesses the Will of Fire we of the leaf are so famous for.” He began while nosing the blossom. “When she fought her cousin and refused to stay down even after being brutally mauled by him, she continued.” Naruto murmured. “She’s kind, in fact she is unbelievably kind, kind enough to want to be friends with someone like me.” He muttered, and once again Ino was hard pressed to keep quiet. “Though I must admit I am confused by all the fainting, and fevers she seems to have.” Naruto said with a small chuckle. “In all of us, no in all of Konoha I think she is the purest of us.” He uttered. “I know she’s killed and destroyed lives just like the rest of us, but some how it hasn’t stained her.” He finished and then looked up to see Ino grinning softly at him.
“Gee, I wish I had a guy like you.” Ino finally murmured confusing Naruto once more.
“What do you mean?” He asked still playing with the white flower.
“Nothing, nothing.” She mumbled and grinned at him. “Well, its about time for our shift to end huh?” Ino reminded and Naruto nodded and at the last second paid for the blossom in his hand.
“Hey, Ino?” Naruto prodded.
“Hmm?” Ino returned.
“What is this?” He inquired while holding the blossom up.
“It’s a White Lily.” She answered and laid her chin on a propped hand. “Going to give it to Sakura-san?” Ino asked, still doodling in her notebook.
“Nope, it reminds me of Hinata-chan.” Naruto responded honestly and dashed out, but just before he left he stopped at the door of the store. “Hey what’s it mean?” Naruto asked while glancing at Ino.
“Purity.” Ino stated putting up her notebook. “It is normally used in weddings, or when...” She trailed off, but Ino wondered if she should push her comment. She stopped and just smiled, she had enough fun with the spiky blond for the day. Naruto fidgeted at the added information before walking out, his cheeks a little red, yet before he could he stopped one last time.
“Thanks Ino!” Naruto exclaimed before vanishing into the streets. Ino just laughed, scaring the customers that had come in after Naruto’s departure. An hour later a squealing Sakura appeared, chattering a mile a minute...
