Veil

She couldn’t remember when she started fooling herself and him. True, Chrono was sweet, kind, and was able to do housework with nary a complaint. There was never anything that was said different, but he was also a devil, one who lives a very, very, long time. Chrono was gifted with might and magic, due to what he was, already out living his first love...

‘Love?’ Rosette scoffed and shook her head. She couldn’t love a devil, just understanding the bare society rules. Not to mention, she was a sister of a church, there had to be some rule against such a pair. Chrono could also revert to his more bestial instincts, and that would be all the world wrote.

Besides, its not like Chrono had any such interest in a teenage human girl anyway. His last love had been generous, sweet, docile, and had manage to charm eleven of the thirteen devils. There were even rumors of Aion wanting to keep her even if her death played a major part in gaining control of Pandamonia. Ah, but she wasn’t no Mary, no matter what Aion might twist to as far as words go. She was simply, Rosette, and she was definitely not docile.

Besides, romance would be impossible, her time was growing short. Rosette allowed her sky-blue eyes to fall to the strange stopwatch around her neck. She reached toward it, and lifted for closer inspection only for footsteps to change the direction of her attention. Long, purplish-black hair whipped about in a thigh-long braid, and ruby-red eyes gleamed worriedly. "Chrono."She whispered.

"Is everything alright?" Chrono inquired, glancing at her watch, as it sometimes came with painful surges. Rosette’s body would try to sometimes catch up to her soul’s acceleration to death.

"Everything is fine." Rosette answered with a gleaming smile. Chrono gave her a scrutinizing gaze before nodding at her. "Don’t you have chores to get to?" She asked threateningly. He gulped, before chuckling and running off toward the canteen.

Leaning back against the bench she had been sitting up, she felt her blond hair fall around her face. It hid her expression from the world, and it probably was a good thing. ‘Love?’ No, she could never love him, it was impossible. Rosette had never been much good at lying to herself...

Her hand clenched around the watch, the sun falling on the hands that were almost reaching the top roman numeral..Mere months, days, or hours away from her death. No, Rosette knew she would never make thirty, but it was beginning to look like she would never reach twenty either..
