No Longer A Whim:

Ang cradled Jono, gave himself a moment to just breathe. The battle with X-cutioner had derailed their plans to go to Xavier’s. Having to defend himself from a man accusing him of killing Angelo Espinosa and assuming his identity had been almost absurd. Jono was weak, groggy and needed help.

Their car was gone, lost to escaping from the X-cutioner. He’d promised Jono they’d find a ride. Now by the road, almost out in the open, sure he’d defeated X-cutioner, but still without a ride, Angelo worried.

He glanced over at Jono, who’s head was on his shoulder, eyes half closed.

Ang leaned down and kissed Jono’s forehead, worried by the silence.

“Tell me you ain’t dead,” Ang pleaded.

Jono’s head shifted, brown eyes blinked at him slowly. He got a knuckled rolled down his cheek in answer before Jono snuggled into his shoulder and closed his eyes. Ang’s grip tightened.

A decision formed in his head, he was going home. It had been a whim before, when he’d suggested to Jono that they should have a road trip to LA. Now it was a need. When Jono survived this, whatever this was they were taking a break. Forget the team, the responsibility, the drama and the world saving. They were taking time off. He was going to see his mother, see for himself that she’d moved on, that she was still living.

Ang pressed another quick kiss to Jono’s forehead, then looked down the road and took in the headlight coming towards them. It was time to find that ride to Xavier’s.
