A/N: Second half of the story, first part found
here Kagome searched through the rack while adjusting the baby again. The girl weighed a ton and her hips were protesting to the weight. But Kaede wasn’t taking well to all the noise surrounding them. She should have known better but she’d had no choice. She wasn’t sure what size of shoes the girl would need. It also got them away from the shrine. The last two weeks had been hell getting everything taken care of. Her mother had to ask a favor of an old friend that worked with the county. Lies had been told to get everything straight. Now she just needed a break from everything. Things had been simpler three years ago, well not much.
Going back had changed her life permanently by no mistake of her own. Sango had given birth to a healthy boy but then a tragedy had struck. Kikyou being a few months along had miscarried. Inuyasha had stated they wouldn’t have any more kids but Kikyou wanted a family. It was something the miko had always wanted. So giving in to the woman’s desires they had tried again. Sango’s son was two months old when Kikyou announced she was expecting again. Then Inuyasha had pulled Kagome aside asking her to stay and help Kikyou. The woman was still trying to carry out her duties as village priestess and stressing herself. Wanting the man and woman to have a healthy child Kagome had agreed knowing she had nothing to rush back to. Even with the help she’d given the pregnancy had been hard on Kikyou.
Everything went from bad to worse the day of the delivery. There was nothing they could when the woman began hemorrhaging. Her and Sango had done everything they could to stop the bleeding. As a last attempt even Miroku had come in to try to help save the woman. With Kikyou’s last breath she’d ask Kagome to take care of Inuyasha and the baby. Then she’d turned to the hanyou and told him she loved him one last time. Just like that the woman was gone and they couldn’t do anything. Inuyasha had been so distraught he’d taken the woman’s corpse from the hut and ran off leaving the child.
Days later he’d come back so they could bury Kikyou for the last time. Kagome had named the little girl after Kaede. She’d heard Kikyou state that it was her wish many times. Wanting to do as the woman asked Kagome stayed longer. Weeks went by while she took care of the baby, all except feeding. Sango was still nursing her son, so had taken over those duties. Everyone had to watch as Inuyasha was slowly dying by grief. The man rarely ate or spoke. Kagome felt helpless, unable to snap him out of it. Even showing him the child that greatly resembled his dead wife did nothing.
The child was over a year old and didn’t know who her father was. Inuyasha began disappearing weeks at a time coming back wounded every time. Kagome had snapped at him demanding to know why he was trying to kill himself when he had a child to take care. The baby’s hair had begun to grow in a pale silver, resembling her father in one way. Still the man would only become more depressed as he watched his child grow. No one knew what to do, all had tried. A month ago when Kaede had reached fifteen months of age, Sesshoumaru had shown up at the village. In his arms was a still form, a very dead Inuyasha. The man had jumped straight into a battle he couldn’t win. When his brother had chanced upon him dying, the man told Sesshoumaru not to revive him. He was ready for death to come. Instead he asked that his body be taken to Kagome so he could be buried next to Kikyou.
Kagome had been distraught over what to do. When she suggested leaving the baby with Sango and Miroku they had protested. The baby thought of Kagome as her mother already. Plus, they said it was what Kikyou and Inuyasha would have wanted. She couldn’t stay in the past any longer. As it was she’d already been gone over two years. She missed her real family and she longed to see him again. It didn’t matter if he was still with Keiko, she missed him. Shippou had been upset knowing she’d be leaving again. So, she’d told the kit that he was welcome to come. They’d had to go over a few ground rules but he was happy as long as she didn’t leave him again.
Her mother had been happy and shocked to see her arriving out of the well house after so long. Questions had arose over the child. After hearing the sad story her family agreed to help her in any way they could. She still grieved over both deaths but loved the child she’d taken as her own. It was part of the man that had been her first love and a woman that she’d grown to respect and call friend. She would make them proud by devoting her love to the child.
Kagome winced in pain as a tiny hand clamped down on her breast. She’d stayed long enough to break the baby from breast feeding. Now she was drinking from a regular cup and eating solid foods. Sixteen months and she had plenty of teeth to bite with. Which she did whenever the mood struck her. Kagome assumed she got her foul temper from Inuyasha. “You aren’t going to get any milk out of those no matter how hard you squeeze.”
The baby tossed the toy she’d been holding to the floor. Kagome bent down to retrieve it, promising a nap to the irate child. They needed to get some more clothes and diapers. Oh how glad she was to be back in this era. Those cloth diapers had been the pits. Yes, disposable was the way to go. Her mother said it’d be another couple of months before she could think of potty training.
“Kagome, is it you?” Keiko stopped pushing the cart. Ignoring the own wails of her son she walked on over. The other girl turned at the sound of her voice. Now she was glad she’d told her husband she’d grab the diapers. Seeing the girl was a shocker. She’d talked to Yusuke this morning and he hadn’t mentioned her being back in town. Which means he didn’t know. “When did you get back?”
“Oh hey Keiko. I got back two weeks ago.” Kagome smiled seeing the small baby in the seat. The baby was no more than a few weeks old. It was screaming which seemed to aggravate her own. Kaede turned to the other wailing and narrowed her eyes. Yes, she definitely took after Inuyasha. Then again she’d seen Kikyou with the same expression several times. Was that Yusuke’s child? “He’s cute, how old is he?”
“Five weeks this Monday. He’s usually quiet but a little gassy today. The doctor has put him on some drops to help. Is she yours?” Keiko looked at the little girl. She didn’t fail to notice the strange hair color or the way she clung to the other girl. She was already doing the math in her head. If she was Yusuke’s she’s have to be near two years old. “How old is she?”
“Yes, and she just turned sixteen months. I can’t say her attitude is due to anything besides being cranky. Takes after her father I think. So how is Yusuke?” Kagome had to ask the question. It had been plaguing her since she’d returned. She hadn’t gotten up the courage to call. She wasn’t sure what he’d told Keiko about them. Looked like nothing if she hadn’t bitched at her yet. Would he even want to see her now that she was back?
“He’s doing well.” But would be crushed now. Keiko frowned figuring out the dates. The child wasn’t old enough for it to be Yusuke’s. Which meant Kagome had gotten pregnant on the other side of the well. What had been her talk of loving him then? She was kind of disappointed in the girl. Yusuke was still waiting til this day for the woman to come back. All he did was work and wait. She wasn’t sure what else to say. Thankfully her husband came up to her, “Oh, I don’t believe you’ve met my husband.”
Kagome was shocked to see the strange man come up and put an arm around the woman. Husband? When had this happened? She frowned knowing she’d been gone a long time. No one’s fault but her own. Did this mean Yusuke was divorced and single? It didn’t mean he’d want to be with her now. She greeted the man and smiled at him. “Nice to meet you. I need to get going before she pitches a fit. Will you tell Yusuke that I’m back and that I’ll be at the shrine. I’d like to see him again.”
“Sure, you take care.” Keiko gave her a weak smile before walking away. How would Yusuke react to the news? Would he care? There was only one way to know. He’d get pissed at her if he found out that she’d talked to Kagome without telling him about it. This was something she’d tell him in person though, not over the phone.
Keiko sat down on the blue couch and waited for Yusuke to hand her the glass of tea. She’d left the baby with her husband. Someone had to break the news to him and no one else would be able to handle his reaction. She’d debated for the last three days on how to break the news to him. His home had gotten nicer over the years. It was a home being furnished for a family one day. One could see all his hopes in every piece of furniture. It hurt to tell him, “Yusuke I need to talk to you about something.”
“What? Is something wrong? Are you fighting again?” He sat back on the couch when she looked at the floor. Whenever she had a problem in her marriage she came to him. He guessed it was only fair since he often spoke of Kagome to her. She had to be tired of hearing the other woman’s name by now. Still, Keiko said she accepted his feelings. They hadn’t gone anywhere in over two years. Not a day didn’t go by that he didn’t think of her. One day she’d be back and he’d be waiting.
“It’s Kagome, before you say anything let me finish okay. I was shopping a few days ago. I went to the baby section to get some diapers. I saw her and we spoke, she’s been back for over two weeks. Before you get up and go over there, there is something you should know.” She saw the happiness rush to his eyes and face. “I don’t want to tell you but she had a baby with her. It was her child and it was only sixteen months old. Do the math Yusuke, it isn’t old enough to be yours. I’m sorry to be the one to tell you. I didn’t ask who the father was.”
“You didn’t have to.” His elation got crushed by the facts. She’d gotten pregnant on that side of the well not long after she’d gone back. There is only one man she’d sleep with that soon on that side. The girl had never really gone into the specifics about their relationship and he hadn’t asked. It had been a painful subject for Kagome so he hadn’t pressed the matter. He’d been waiting all this time for her to come back and she’d gotten back with her ex. She’d said she loved him, he’d been hoping for something that would never happen. Had he been wasting his time? Had she run straight back into her first love’s arms? “I need some time alone Keiko.”
He got up and walked out the door leaving her calling after him. The pain consumed his chest as he thought about it. Keiko wouldn’t lie to him about this. The closer his walk got him to the shrine he could feel her there. There was no mistaking the pure aura as he got near. Stopping he stared into the dark sky. She was back but not alone. His senses picked up two new auras; one very weak and a hybrid. The other was all youkai, perhaps a B level. She’d said her ex was a hanyou. Was he still on the other side or had she gotten another lover? Was this just a visit to show off her child to her family. Was her lover waiting on the other side of the well?
Kagome sensed it the moment the aura spiked. She handed the baby to her mother and said she’d be back soon. Slipping on some sandals she rushed outside. It was close, just down the street. Was he coming here or just happened to be close. She didn’t know if Keiko had talked to him yet but she’d been waiting to hear from him since then. Feeling him so near she couldn’t resist the urge to see him again. The steps down the shrine seemed to take forever. He was definitely coming closer with each step. Elation surged through her heart knowing she’d be seeing him again within minutes.
Yusuke stopped when she turned the corner. The running stopped as she spotted him. It was too late to turn back now. His eyes drank her in and his heart ached at the sight. Her hair had gotten longer, resting past her hips. Other than that she looked exactly the same as the night she’d left him. Pain almost made him run back in the other direction. Putting his hands in his pockets he waited for her to close the distance.
“Yusuke,” She smiled up at him. The familiar presence soothed her worry. He’d come to see her, that was enough. The happiness went running for the shrine when she noticed the anger in his eyes. Had he been on his way to her or just near? He didn’t look happy to see her. She hadn’t spoken to him since returning so she couldn’t have done anything wrong yet. “I’m glad you are here.”
“I happened to be in the area, I wasn’t expecting to run into you. I can’t stay long I was just taking a walk before going out.” His eyes lingered on her bottom lip as the smile left. What had she expected? There was no way he was going to admit anything now. Would she laugh if he admitted to waiting for her for so long. While he’d had trouble sleeping due to missing her, she was off fucking some other guy. Had their night meant nothing to her? She looked to be doing well. The separation hadn’t affected her at all. She’d gone on with her life without giving him a second thought.
“I see, well I won’t keep you then. I just sensed you and thought I’d come say hello. You’re going out? A date?” Kagome felt like she’d been punched in the chest. What had she expected? Just because he wasn’t with Keiko didn’t mean he’d be free. Hadn’t her first thought upon finding him married was that someone like him wouldn’t be single for long? She’d missed her chance to snatch him up. Instead she’d done what she thought was right and tried to be there for her friends. Had that cost her the man she loved? He looked well, just as Keiko had said. Was he with someone else?
“Yeah, well kind of. Our one year anniversary is next week and we are planning on going out tonight for it.” The small white lie slipped from his lips easily enough. He wouldn’t let her know he’d been pining for her all this time. Or that knowing she’d moved on was causing him immense pain. Let her believe that what she’d done wasn’t bothering him. Even if he never got over it, she’d never promised him anything. “I got to get going. Maybe I’ll see you around.”
“Okay, yeah I’ll see you around.” Kagome tried to smile as he turned his back to her. The sting of tears was already beginning as he rounded the corner. She had no choice but to go home. He was with someone else, had been for a year. His life had gone on without her in it. What had she really thought would happen? She’d been the one to say she loved him not the other way around. They’d been friends and slept together once then she’d left. Why would he want anything to come out of it? The aura was getting further away by the second.
Footsteps led her back to the shrine steps. Each step brought a new tear streaming down her cheeks. When would she stop losing the people she loved? There was no way she could be friends with him now. Being around him that short amount of time had been painful enough. She couldn’t take seeing him with a new person.
She didn’t make it past the Goshinboku before breaking down and crying hysterically. Her chest heaved as the ache escalated. Strong arms wrapped around her shoulders. She went willingly into the embrace. There was no way she could help the tears as they fell. Doing right by her friends had cost her the one chance at happiness. Maybe he would have started having feelings for her if she’d stayed. She’d never know now that he’d moved on with someone else.
Souta held his sister as she cried. He wasn’t sure what had upset her this time but her sobs were causing his own heart to twist. What it must have been like for her to watch both of them die. To be left to raise a child that wasn’t her own. A child that was the product of the man she’d loved with another woman. She had such a good heart she loved the child despite all that. Even though both people had caused her great pain in the past. He cradled her head, the tears soaking his shirt. What had made her finally break down? After all was said and done, Kagome was only so strong. “Shhh, it’s okay.”
“No, it’s not. It’s gone, I can’t get it back. They’re all gone and I’m alone. What did I do that was so wrong? I just wanted to be there for them. I didn’t know, I didn’t know.” Her nails tightened in his shirt as the comforting hands held her close. It wasn’t fair. All that time waiting for Inuyasha to stop grieving, she was setting up her own heartache. She should have ended her own misery along with him. “I don’t have anyone now, he’s gone.”
“That’s not true and you know it. You have your family, you have a son that loves you and a daughter that needs you. It doesn’t matter that they aren’t yours, they love you just as much as we do. You are never alone, you have your family. Don’t do this to yourself. Tell me what happened, please.” Souta forced her to look up at him. It felt strange being the supportive one when it had been her always there for him. His hand stroked her hair as she began talking. Anger filled his chest hearing everything. He hated to know his sister was hurting and there was nothing he could do about it.
Keiko squeezed the hand resting near her own and sighed. Everyone was doing their best to cheer him up but it wasn’t working. This get together had been Kurama’s idea. Something to get Yusuke out of the house. To get his mind off things. All he’d done since coming was stare at the table. They were all here with the exception of Hiei to help. Nothing they were doing was working. There was no outward sign of his depression due to what he was but she could see it in the haunted eyes. He was in pain and trying to deal with it the best way he knew how. Which was to bottle it up until it exploded. “Better eat something.”
Yusuke ignored the comment. He didn’t feel like eating the stale pizza. He appreciated them trying to cheer him up. Even watching Shizuru welt Kuwabara wasn’t helping his mood. They all knew the details now, his love life was an open book. They all knew how he’d been waiting and the girl had ran and had a child for her old boyfriend. He didn’t need their pity. What he needed to do was to travel back to the past and stop Kagome from leaving that night. Anything to stop from losing her. “I’m not hungry.”
Two months of knowing she was close and unable to go near her. He was tempted to go kick the man’s ass and tell her how he felt. Would she leave the other man if she knew? She hadn’t came to see him since that night. If she wanted to see him then she could have. The only explanation is she didn’t care to be around him. He’d missed his chance, she was gone.
“Shit,” Kuwabara almost jumped in front of Urameshi so he wouldn’t look up. Everyone caught the word and looked up to see what he was seeing. He realized his mistake when he heard the man’s intake of breath. Of all the places for the girl to be why did she have to pick now to come get something to eat. Better yet out of all the malls in the city, she had to come to the one they’d decided to go shopping in. Hadn’t the girl done enough damage?
“Don’t be rude bro.” Shizuru noticed the girl hesitate but the young man with her had her arm. Seemed she was going to speak to them. It wasn’t their place to be upset, it was Yusuke that was hurt. She greeted her when they got within range. “Hey girl.”
Kagome nodded towards Shizuru trying to keep her eyes off the young man sitting down next to Keiko. She was just thankful his female companion wasn’t with him or she would have gone running for the nearest bathroom. Souta hand tightened on her arm trying to give her the smallest amount of comfort. Just because Yusuke didn’t want to be with her didn’t mean she had to be rude to these people she’d once considered friends. “Hello. How are you Shizuru?”
“Hanging in there? Don’t have the baby with you?” She lit her cigarette ignoring the no smoking sign. She had a feeling she was going to be needing it. Yusuke had already tensed up and looked ready to snap. She wouldn’t be surprised if he got up and walked off. Either that or he was going to say something he’d regret later.
“No, my mom is keeping an eye on her today. Sorry, though I’d like for you to see her. She’s not too keen on large crowds. I think it’s the sensitive ears and all that.” Kagome tried to smile but it was hard past the lump in her throat. It didn’t matter how much everyone told her it was going to be okay. Seeing him was bringing back all the hurt. What did she have to sacrifice to be happy? Knowing she’d hate herself if she didn’t ask she finally turned to him. He looked to be fine but once again angered at her presence. “How are you Yusuke?”
“He’s not with you, that should tell you something.” Kuwabara snapped getting irked. The girl had the nerve to stand there and look like she cared. If she fucking cared so much she wouldn’t have run off with her old boyfriend and had a kid. It wasn’t right she left Urameshi hanging for so long and come back acting like she’d done nothing wrong.
Kagome couldn’t have been more stunned if he’d have smacked her across the face. What had Yusuke told them about her? Everyone was looking at her with accusing eyes. What had she done that was so wrong? Okay, so she’d slept with a married man but it took two to tango. Why all the animosity towards her? It was there now, they weren’t bothering to try to hide it any longer. Even Keiko looked away from her. Did they blame her for splitting the two up? She felt guilty enough without them hating on her. Pain filled her as Yusuke glared at her with open hostility. Unable to take it any longer she snatched out of her brother’s hold. He yelled her name as she took off running.
Souta saw red seeing the tears once more in her eyes. Dammit he was so sick and tired of people dumping on her. The large man seemed shocked being snatched up by the collar of his shirt. Stunned gasps filled the area as he raised his voice. He might not be a youkai or have special abilities but he loved his sister. “You dare talk to her like that again and I swear I will kill you. She doesn’t deserve it.”
“Forgive me but it was your dear sister that ran back to the past. She’s the one that came back with a child not him. She has no one to blame but herself.” Kuwabara shook his head when Yusuke got up on his behalf. He could understand the boy’s anger. He’d be pissed to if someone said something he didn’t like about Shizuru. Still he wouldn’t take it back. Yusuke was hurting because of the girl. Let her live with the guilt that she’d hurt him.
“Is that what this is about?” Souta tightened his hold on the man. He felt himself close to tears at the horror of it all. Ever since she’d gone through the well he’d had to watch her put herself in danger many times to help others. She was always willing to deny herself for those she loved. To know that she loved a man so shallow made anger force the tears aside. “You asshole, all of you are a bunch of bastards. How can you condemn her for it? Let me tell you something all my life I’ve watched my sister do nothing for herself. It was no different when she went back to the past the last time. Do you have any idea what it’s done to her? Of course you don’t, none of you do but you have no problem sitting there on your high fucking horses and judge her. What else was she supposed to do? Would it have been better for her to leave the child to die? Do you have any idea what those two once put her through? No, it was my family that had to see her tears. Despite everything, she put her own sorrow aside to help them.”
His voice broke being close to tears himself. They couldn’t understand, they hadn’t been there. “That woman asked her to stay so she did. Even though everyone knew she wanted to come back to him. That fucking bitch knew she was going to die and begged my sister to stay. Kagome didn’t have the heart to tell her no. My sister did everything they asked of her. Even staying to watch that woman die and leave behind a child. Do you know the pain it caused to have to care for a newborn child that wasn’t hers while watching the father act like it doesn’t exist? Should I tell you how she cried having to bury him next to Kikyou? Would you all like to know what it was like to decide to raise a child knowing one day you’d have to explain why both her parents are dead?”
“I’m not sure who’s the bigger asshole. Inuyasha for choosing to die and abandon his child or you for turning on my sister.” Souta made sure he was looking at Yusuke as he spoke. His hand let go of the much larger man. Stunned silence surrounded him as he turned around to walk away. He’d had his say, fuck them. If they were like that then she was better off without them.
Kagome put the spoon down on the table and looked around. Everyone else was out for the evening. Souta had come out to the car looking pissed. Not a word had been spoken on the way home. He wouldn’t tell her what he said to them if anything. They’d been greeted by her mother complaining about having to head into town to fetch some new art supplies. She’d taken up painting in the last year. She was sure Gramps was out playing cards with his friends. Keeping an eye on the kitchen she hurried to the door as the knocking continued. Souta was expecting a package in the mail. “Coming.”
She only blinked seeing Keiko standing there with Kurama. The urge to slam the door was strong as the other girl smiled at her. She had nothing to smile about. She gave a brief hello before inviting them in and turning her back. They could come in if they wanted but that was all the welcome they were getting from her. They could say whatever it was they had to and leave. She managed to grab the spoon out of the child’s hands.
“She looks to be in a better mood today.” Keiko walked into the kitchen behind her. The child was giggling and slapping the small mess on the tray. She’d managed to spill her drink, which Kagome was now trying to wipe up. Keiko wasn’t sure what to say to her but she had to try. This was mostly her fault and she wanted to set things right. They’d tried to talk Yusuke into coming but the boy refused. Saying he’d fucked things up even worse. He’d admitted to lying to Kagome about dating someone. “How did you manage to feed her before? I can’t imagine they had formula back then.”
“I didn’t. Sango recently had a child. So while she fed the child I was trying to convince her father not to commit suicide. Anything else you want to know?” Kagome tossed the used paper towel in the trash. She knew she was being a bitch but couldn’t help it. They had all looked at her like she was dirt. The only thing she’d done wrong was fall in love with a jerk it seemed. “Whatever you came by to say do so quickly. She’ll be needing a nap soon.”
“Look Kagome, I’m sorry. It’s my fault.” Keiko silenced Kurama with her hand. She’d handle this, she’d begun it. It was the least she could do for Yusuke. Perhaps if Kagome knew the whole truth she’d want to talk to him. “There’s something you should know. The day you left me and Yusuke split. He told me what happened between you two. The only person that didn’t know how he felt was me. He was in love with you. I know he lied to you the other night about seeing someone. Ask any one of his friends, they’ll tell you the truth. He’s been waiting for you to come back. Yusuke hasn’t looked at another woman much less gone on a date. He lied because he was upset and I’m afraid that was my fault. I told him that I saw you in the store and that you had a child with you. I assumed the worst and told him. He believed you’d went back to the past and moved on. I jumped to conclusions and I guess he took me at my word that the child was yours and that you’d ended up with someone else after him. He’s been miserable since you’ve been back. We don’t hate you or hold the child against you. We just all thought you didn’t care that he was hurting. He still loves you, we just thought you’d want to know.”
“Keiko can take care of the child and I’ll take you to his place if you wish. Kuwabara was supposed to see him home. I can call to make sure they’ve gotten there by now.” Kurama could see the questions she wanted to ask but they didn’t have the answers. Her and Yusuke needed to sit down and talk.
“Yes, let me take her for the night. I have a crib she can sleep in. Just get a bag together and I’ll enjoy keeping an eye on her for you. It’ll give you two time to talk and work things out.” Keiko walked over and placed a hand on the girl’s shoulder. She looked to be on the verge of tears. “Don’t worry, it’ll be okay. Yusuke is a little dense at times but he’s missed you.”
Kagome nodded unsure if she could speak. “Wait, I can’t. What about Shippou? He’s upstairs taking a nap, I can’t leave him with just anyone.” She really wanted to go with him to see Yusuke but who would watch the kit? He was picky about who he was with. He also suffered from separation anxiety. “I doubt he’d go with you Keiko. He’s been picky about who he is comfortable with since I’ve known him.”
“Who’s Shippou? The youkai I sense?” Kurama arched an eyebrow at her. The power wasn’t that strong but close. Nothing threatening about it. Was it another male in her life? Did the girl have some secrets after all.
“Shit, he’s a kit. He kind of became attached to me during my trips to the past. When I came back he didn’t want me to go so I brought him with me. I guess you can say I’m like an adopted mother to him.” She frowned knowing she’d have to wait to talk to Yusuke. Keiko grabbed the baby out of the seat while Kagome walked up the stairs. Both kids slept in the room with her. Shippou would be lying on the bed. They followed her on up as she walked inside. The boy opened his eyes as she walked into the room.
“Kagome?” Shippou stared at the two new people coming into the room. His nose twitched smelling them. He also could smell the tears Kagome was trying to suppress. “What’s wrong?”
“Nothing but I need to go talk to someone. Keiko here will be taking Kaede for the night. Would you prefer to stay with her or stay here with Souta? If it’s okay with you that is, I need a few hours alone.” She smiled at him hoping he’d be okay with everything. If what Keiko said was true then she wanted to speak to Yusuke as soon as possible. It didn’t matter that he’d lied or had acted indifferently to her. If he cared about her then she wanted to be with him. “Or you can ask Kurama to keep an eye on you. He’s a fox too.”
“Really?” That got his attention and he let his eyes linger over the red head. He looked human from here. Bounding over the bed he got close enough to get a good whiff of the man. It was barely there but he could sense it. What was the man’s story? “How many tails?”
“Five,” Kurama smiled seeing he had the boy’s attention. He nodded to Kagome and the girl went to the closet to start fixing a bag for the baby and kit. Within minutes the little fox was up in his arms wanting to listen to him talk about Youko. He promised him later after they got Kagome to where she was going.
The ride over was made in silence as Kurama drove. They were dropping her off first. Kuwabara had said he’d tried to take Yusuke home but the man had walked off when they’d reached the apartment. Kagome had told them just to take her on over and she’d wait for him. He’d come home eventually.
They pulled up into the parking lot that was still void of a Yusuke. Kurama had let her into the place with the spare key. It was three bedrooms, very spacious. It made her wonder what kind of job he’d gotten after she left. It was clean, even the bed was made. Either he’d gotten neater or he didn’t sleep at home. The thought pained her but she reminded herself what Keiko had said. Unless he’d been telling the truth and they hadn’t known.
Deciding to wait she walked into the master bedroom and took a seat. Hopefully he’d be home before too long. Laying across the bed she looked out the large window. There was even a balcony for them to sit on. The place was real nice. Why would he rent something so large if it was just him? Doubt began to fill her as she dozed off. As long as another female didn’t come in then she’d be okay with his reasons.
Keiko put the plate down and glanced at her husband. He merely shrugged his shoulders and went back to feeding Kaede. The little girl had taken to him unexpectedly. Her own baby was sleeping still having woken up at five in the morning. It was probably Yusuke or Kagome coming to get the little girl. It was already after eight but that was fine. Wiping her hands on the dish towel she walked across the living room. A bright smile crossed her face seeing Yusuke leaning against the door frame. “Come on in, we figured you’d be by soon.”
Keiko waved him in. Kagome didn’t seem to want to let the child go but that was to be expected if she’d raised her from birth. The man walked in and followed her into the kitchen. The child stopped and looked at the new comer. The large brown eyes widened seeing the man coming into the room. The baby slammed a tiny fist into the tray. “No Mama.”
“No sweetie that’s not your Mama. I’m sure you’ll see her in a few though. Did you drive Yusuke?” Keiko wet a rag seeing the spray that had hit the floor. The little girl had somewhat of a temper but was otherwise adorable. She couldn’t imagine how Kagome did it. “Where’s Kagome? She didn’t come with you? As much as we enjoyed it, she’s been getting testy since waking up.”
“What the hell are you talking? How would I know where she is?” He scowled at his friend. He’d come over here to ask for advice, not for her to ask him stupid questions while rubbing the obvious in his face. Okay so he’d fucked up, he knew this. He had to listen to Kuwabara bitch at him and give his two cents on the way home. He just couldn’t take it so he’d ran into the Makai afterwards and taken out his anger on a few youkai that had gotten close to the border. “Who’s kid is that?”
“What? That’s Kagome’s baby. Well, you know what I mean. You mean she wasn’t there when you got home? She said she was going to stay. Sorry I thought you two had patched things up.” Keiko sighed and placed her hands on the table. The boy looked confounded about her speaking. Her eyes finally took a good look at him. His hair was ruffled, there were a few scratches on his face, and a small bruise on his chin. “Yusuke you idiot! You didn’t go home did you? You went somewhere and brawled like a street thug. Oh my, I can only imagine what the fuck she’s thinking right now. Dammit, I went over there and told her everything. Me and Kurama dropped her off at your house, she’s probably been there all night. I can only imagine what she’s thinking when you stayed out all night.”
“Hun, he’s gone.” The spoon was grabbed out of his hands as he looked towards the open door. Keiko smiled seeing the knocked over chair. Good it was about time he got off his ass. Kagome must be worried after waiting on him all night. Especially after Yusuke’s boast of being with someone else.
The place was quiet as he stepped inside, all the lights were still out. There was no sound but he knew she was still there. Slipping off his shoes, he made his way to the bedroom. The door was opened already as if she’d been waiting for him to walk in. The sound of her even breathing greeted him. She looked so peaceful sleeping in the large bed. How long had she waited before going to sleep?
Kagome felt the strong presence, the call slowly pulling her awake. Her mind was still groggy from lack of sleep. She’d dozed off for an hour then gotten up. She’d been hungry and went to the kitchen to find something to eat. Not surprising that Yusuke had nothing in his home except old take-out. So she’d settle for a cup of hot tea to settle her nerves. There was a café down the street but she hadn’t wanted to leave and miss him. Giving up on getting any food she’d walked back into the bedroom and sat down. The television had kept her occupied for several hours until midnight had come and gone. Worry had kept her up until almost dawn, wondering where the man was spending his night.
The bed creaked as she opened her eyes. His clothes were torn and stained in several spots. He met her eyes as he climbed on the bed so they would be facing each other. She could see the tiny scraps over his cheek, had he been fighting? A smile tugged at the corner of her lips, when he moved closer without speaking. The heat was radiating off his body in waves, “You’ve been fighting.”
“Kind of,” His hand reached out to touch the pale cheek. Her eyes were swollen and red. Guilt filled him knowing he was the cause of it. He shouldn’t have listened to Keiko and went to go see for himself and let her tell him where she’d been for so long. He didn’t even care about the kid, he just wanted her. If she hadn’t run back to her ex and still loved him then that was all that mattered. He just needed to know that she wanted him. “You’ve been crying.”
“Kind of,” she caught the hand stroking her face. Was she dreaming or was he really here? The warmth made her heart ache. The touch brought hope as it lingered. Could they work things out? “I’m sorry I didn’t come back. I didn’t know you were waiting, I thought...”
“I know and that’s my fault. I should have told you that night how I felt before I took things too far. I was going to tell you the next day but you were already gone. I wanted to come for you, I even tried jumping in the well. It didn’t work.” A small grin formed remembering how he’d jumped in and nothing had happened. The fat cat had just sat on the edge and peered down at him like he was stupid. “I’ve missed you. Is it you Kagome? Have you really come back?”
“Yes,” she placed an arm around his waist as he pulled her closer. The embrace was wonderful to the touch. How many nights hadn’t she remembered the feel of being held by him. Being back was almost hard to accept. Did he really want her? A kiss was placed upon the palm as her head turned. She held still as the head dipped toward her own. The lips were rough and tasted faintly of blood as his tongue sought entrance.
Hands pulled at the torn shirt yanking it over his head. As much as he wanted to do this he wanted to hold her for awhile. He climbed off the bed and finished undressing. Brown eyes devoured the pale flesh as she pulled every article of clothing off as well. Once he was done he climbed up in the bed behind her. She snuggled up against his chest as they spooned. The miko shivered in his hold as a chaste kiss was placed upon her neck. His member was hard and pressed against the delicate curve of her backside.
Kagome moaned as he rubbed against the heated flesh. Would he want to wait? Or did he still want to talk? The question was answered as the tip probed her damp sex from behind. The hand running up her thigh went down to grab her knee. She turned slightly against him as the thick length drove deeper inside her tight sheath. He didn’t seem satisfied until her leg was being pressed against her chest as the arm holding it held her close. She panted as the penetration came deep and slow.
“Ah, you feel so good.” Yusuke tightened the hold around the girl’s chest as he titled his hips. Her cry echoed his own as he started to thrust faster. It’d been so long he could feel his climax already nearing as the tight walls clung to him like a second skin. The wetness coated him as his cock slid deep making the girl whimper his name. He didn’t think he could hold out any longer as the muscles began to contract pulling his own release in quick spurts of pleasure. It came too soon for him but there was no stopping the orgasm that wracked his body.
Kagome felt the thick member as the release found the man. Lips claimed her own as they both came down. Relief washed over her as the arm released her leg but pulled her into a tight embrace. He began to apologize about the rushed performance. She giggled as the erection rested against her wet thighs. If she knew him then they’d be making up for it soon. At least until Keiko decided to stop by. “It’s okay, I’m just glad to be home.”
“Yes, you’re home. I’m not sure if you took a look around the place but I got it for us. Wasn’t expecting to have an immediate family right away but we’ll figure something out. It won’t take much to change one of the rooms to suit her.” He snuggled up closer to the girl as she agreed. Later they’d discuss a few things but for now she was back. Now that he’d been given another chance he’d make sure she stayed. The words he longed to say halted on his lips. Would she believe him if he spoke them? Instead of blurting them out he swore to do something more believable. He’d show her everyday just how much she meant to him.
