Summary for Part One: Claire thinks about Charlie and his imaginary peanut butter.
1. Peanut Butter
The sweetest thing a man had ever done for Claire…was bring her peanut butter. No, not just bring her peanut butter, but go crazy looking for said peanut butter. Granted, he failed to find actual peanut butter…but imaginary peanut butter was better, anyway. It made less of a mess.
Claire had been reluctant to move to the caves. She had a baby inside of her to think about; the beach seemed like the safest place. But when she saw Charlie’s eyes, she saw how much it meant to him that she go with him. It made her feel…warm inside, which was a feeling she hadn’t experienced much in the months before this whole thing began. It made her feel special. And when he came up with that imaginary peanut butter story - imaginary peanut butter created all for her - she knew there was no way possible to resist him.
In that moment, Claire saw that Charlie Pace was the sweetest man she’d ever met, with an even sweeter imagination.
