Force of Habit
Naruto wasn’t surprised when he found the Uchiha holed up in the shinobi library reading up on theories and techniques. He also wasn’t surprised when he found said Uchiha sleeping on the library books. When Sasuke couldn’t brood normally and with quiet at his home he would come here. Lately the poor Uchiha was swamped with the masses that were his fans, both girls and boys. So when Naruto couldn’t find the boy for a spar or a team lunch at his home, he always knew to come here.
It did take awhile for the library to actually allow him access due to his special condition, but after a few words from the Hokage and his team leader his presence was barely tolerated there. The situation was of course helped by the fact that his teammate was the last Uchiha. Naruto cringed at that last thought, it made him sound like he was using Sasuke, especially his clan name. If nothing else Sasuke hated that more then anything, except maybe that man he has sworn to kill.
Naruto didn’t really know about Sasuke’s thoughts, especially about his much needed revenge, but he dealt with it by being some semblance of a friend. Sasuke would of course prefer the term rival to friend, but Naruto didn’t mind. Sometimes though, it wouldn’t hurt for the boy to acknowledge Naruto as a friend. Sighing he went to wake Sasuke from his dreams, even though he looked quite content. Stopping he instead sat beside the boy with his favorite hand seal activated. A Kage Bunshin sat beside him and together they read the books scattered beside Sasuke. Naruto would always willing help his friends and like always he memorize the information to talk over with Sasuke later. After all two heads were always better then one, so three, even though its just a shadow of one, would be better then two.
About two hours later, as Sasuke’s cycle was redundant as always, a groan could be heard from Sasuke’s direction. Now, no matter how scarred or how alert the Uchiha was, he never woke up all at once. Naruto chuckled, Sasuke’s fans would practically die for this information, but Naruto felt chuffed because Sasuke always knew when Naruto would find him so he felt safe enough to sleep in his presence. So he kept the information to himself and looked over to his teammate, he frowned immediately after. As Sasuke was shivering in his sleep and his face was gaunt with fear, he even struggled lightly in his sleep against an unknown terror. Naruto slammed the book hoping to jostle the boy, but it did nothing. Worried, he reached over and hugged the slimmer boy to his chest and hummed nonsensical words into his ear. Sasuke struggled at first as though Naruto was the manifestation of his dream, but soon he soothed under the calming tone. Naruto sighed keeping Sasuke against his chest he sought to wake the boy up. In a few seconds the pale eyelids fluttered open, and onyx eyes stared into worried blue.
“Uh, dobe?” Sasuke questioned, his voice laden with sleep.
“Had me worried there.” Naruto admitted while Sasuke took stock of the situation. “Want to talk about it?” He offered, and Sasuke turned his head away.
“No.” Sasuke answered.
“Oh..okay.” Naruto sounded disappointed, but he understood.
“It’s not that I don’t want too.” Sasuke admitted quietly. “It’s just because I can’t, not now.” He finished and Naruto nodded while unwrapping his arms from the boy. For a while they had a silent staring contest that last quite a bit. That was until the kage bunshin popped out and startled the two. Sasuke looked around while regain his bearings before smirking at Naruto. “You read?” He prodded with an arrogant tone.
“Of course I do!” Naruto bit back crossing his arms.
“What?” Sasuke mouthed off. “Perverted picture books?” He chimed.
“No!” Naruto snapped out in denial. “That’s Kakashi-sensei!” Naruto muttered.
“Ah, but it is a proven fact that at least one student takes after their sensei.” Sasuke uttered and Naruto grinned at him.
“Must be you then, because sensei is always pulling you aside for a chat.” Naruto returned and Sasuke huffed, Naruto had won this round. “So you admit it?” Naruto questioned.
“I do no such thing.” Sasuke stated crossing his arms and staring down the blond.
“Sure, whatever you say Sasuke.” Naruto responded then turned his attention back to the books, Sasuke mimicked his actions. Twenty minutes later Naruto turned to Sasuke who raised an eyebrow. Naruto raised the book to Sasuke’s face and tapped a word with his finger. “What’s this word?” Naruto asked.
Sasuke read the word aloud subconsciously, before reaching over to hit the boy. “It’s Hokage.” Sasuke muttered catching Naruto’s grin.
“Do you think we could ask the Hokage for some scrolls of jutsu?” Naruto inquired. “He is the ‘Professor,’ after all.” Naruto chimed
“Now why would he give us scrolls?” Sasuke intoned.
“That’s simple, its cause I’m his favorite.” Naruto returned and Sasuke shook his head.
“You’re reading too much, its affecting your brain.” Sasuke uttered and the pair returned to the books saying nothing of what had occurred earlier. It was just another redundant day at the library for them.
