As he slowly drifted upwards towards the surface of wakefulness, the comforting warmth of another person’s presence became increasingly evident. It was not, in fact, a heavy blanket thrown across his chest but rather a heavy arm instead.
His heart seemed to twitch within his chest as he realized it was Sho.
Stupid Sho. He made the vampire feel like an awkward kid sometimes... an awkward kid like Sho.
But it was worth enduring the confused feelings and the awkward glances for the sake of the warmth Sho brought.
Sho made a quiet noise and shifted in his sleep; his face was burrowed in Kei’s armpit but he turned aside and his breath began blowing over Kei’s chest in slow puffs.
Kei would have liked to take advantage of Sho’s unconsciousness and hold him close but Sho had been asleep on his arm for so long that Kei barely had enough feeling to wiggle his fingers. He rolled his eyes at the ceiling.
His right arm was free, so he brought it up to comb his fingers through Sho’s hair; he had lightened it recently, refusing Kei’s help, but neither of them wanting to pay salon prices. It actually looked okay, and Sho had managed to avoid getting dye all over the bathroom.
He could feel the gradual change of Sho’s breathing pattern as he too slowly awoke so Kei took a moment to gently cup his hand against the youth’s face before dropping it at his side again.
“Mm,” was Sho’s response to the cessation of Kei’s touch. To Kei’s surprise, Sho tightened his grasp on his torso.
“Don’t stop...” He murmured, and Kei barely restrained himself from flinching in surprise. Was he talking in his sleep? He had to have been. It didn’t take a vampire’s heightened sense to judge a person’s slow, regular breaths as those of a sleeper.
Still...
Kei returned to lightly tugging his fingers through Sho’s tousled hair, attempting to smooth it down a little as well as enjoying the intimacy of the act.
Sho sighed peacefully and pleasant dreams as he drifted in and out of consciousness.
