Kira had spent the entirety of February thirteenth trying to cook chocolate. He had the recipe in front of him, and he was following it more-or-less exactly, but every time he actually tried to cook it, it burned. After about the fifth batch, he called Setsuna over to help him.
Setsuna and Kira spent a good chunk of February thirteenth trying to make chocolate. They had the recipe in front of them, and were following more-or-less exactly what the recipe said, but every time they actually tried to cook it, it just didn’t look right.
It was very early in the morning of February fourteenth when the finally got it to look just right. They wrapped up the chocolate together, and then Kira picked up the phone and made the call.
“Hey,” he said into the receiver. Setsuna was laying on Kira’s couch, already falling asleep. “Do you think you can come over today? What are you talking about? You are not seeing someone. Hey! Quit fucking lying to me, I know you’re not.” Setsuna’s eyes opened a crack, and he looked up at Kira, who didn’t look very pleased at all. “Fine, whatever, come over after your date. I can’t believe you. I can too get a date! Shut up, I got lots of offers to go out. No, I’m not fucking jealous.”
He hung up the phone angrily, then went to go join Setsuna on the couch. Setsuna lifted his head, and then rested it on Kira’s lap. “Not coming?” he asked.
“’S got a date,” Kira snarled. “Like hell that’s true. I made the chocolate because I knew that wasn’t going to happen today.”
Setsuna sighed, then took Kira’s hand, lacing their fingers together. “Hey, at least we had fun, didn’t we?”
Kira cracked a bit of a grin. He supposed that was true enough. When they hadn’t been trying to figure out what was wrong with the chocolate, they had thrown it at each other, fought with one another, wrestled, and took showers together. The shower’s had been especially fun. It wasn’t like it had been a complete waste of time.
The two of them fell asleep on the couch like that.
Katou wasn’t entirely sure what Kira’s problem had been, but now that the day was drawing to a close, he kind of wished that he had taken him up on it.
His date hadn’t been pleased with his choice to go to McDonald’s for a Valentine’s Day date, and had ended up taking him to some restaurant where he was underdressed and couldn’t afford the food (so she bitched about how she had to pay for their meal, wasn’t that the man’s job?), then she made him take her to a water park, even though he couldn’t actually swim, and then she made him take her to some shitty chick flick where she wouldn’t even make out with him.
By the end of the date, all he wanted was a good fuck, and she wouldn’t even give him that after everything he did for her, because she “didn’t do that on the first date” and she “doubted a second date would happen in the foreseeable future.”
He was quite pleased to go to Kira’s place. He grabbed the hidden key from the top of the doorframe and let himself in. He frowned a little when he saw Kira and Setsuna on the couch, Setsuna’s head on Kira’s lap, Kira’s head dangerously close to Setsuna’s lap, and their fingers intertwined. At least they were fully clothed.
“Why’d you invite me over if you already had a date?” Katou asked loudly, and Kira and Setsuna sat up quickly, not letting go of each other’s hand right away.
“Katou?” Kira asked, rubbing his eyes. “Wha’ time is it?” he asked. He looked over at his digital clock, and saw that it was already 10:56.
“What did you want me for?” Katou asked, more irritated than he intended.
Kira blinked, having to think about that. What did he want Katou for? It was Setsuna who got off the couch, ran to the kitchen, and came back with some wrapped chocolate.
Katou stared at it for a moment, and took it. He opened it, rose an eyebrow at the chocolates inside, and turned towards the other boys. “What are you two, girls?” he asked flatly.
Kira flushed. “I thought you weren’t going to get any chocolate today, so I made you some. You didn’t tell me you had a date.”
Katou shrugged. “Didn’t know I had to tell you everything.” He sat down on an armchair, picked up a chocolate, and studied it between his fingers. “Your dad’s out of town?”
“Yeah,” Kira answered. “Business trip.”
“Thought so. You’d better clean up the kitchen before he comes home. I can see your kitchen’s a mess from here.”
Kira and Setsuna twisted towards the kitchen, and looked quite horrified for a moment. That was, of course, until they heard Katou give a strangled - well, it wasn’t really a cry. It was more of a noise. A noise that a dying cat might make.
When they turned back to him, he looked sick. The chocolate that had just been in his hand was still in his hand, only this time looking chewed up.
“Are you trying to poison me?!” Katou wailed. “What did you do to this chocolate?! I’ve never tasted anything so disgusting!”
Kira and Setsuna looked ashamed for a moment, until Setsuna got angry. “What do you think you’re doing complaining?! Like you could do better! Do you know how long we spent making chocolate yesterday! You have no right to complain.”
His protests were met by Katou throwing the bag of chocolate at his face. “If you think it’s so great, than you try one! I bet you didn’t even sample the goddamn stuff before you gave it to me! You’re trying to kill me!”
Setsuna hesitated for a moment, before he gave Katou a complete look of defiance, and stuck one of the chocolates in his mouth. His look of defiance quickly melted away into a look of ‘I’m going to throw up,’ but at Katou’s victorious look, that look was replaced by one of sheer determination, and he chewed it slowly. It looked almost painful when he swallowed, and his “It wasn’t that bad,” wasn’t very convincing.
Kira grabbed a chocolate next, and frowned at it. “Come on you guys, I think you’re overreacting,” he said, popping it into his mouth. He actually didn’t seem to have too much trouble eating it, and once he swallowed he looked downright confused. “It wasn’t that bad,” he said. “I mean, it wasn’t great, but it wasn’t terrible.”
Katou and Setsuna gave him incredulous looks. Then, Setsuna cleared his throat.
“Kira’s lack of taste buds aside,” he said. “I think we should make this up to Katou,” he said, exchanging meaningful looks with Kira.
Kira smiled like the devil, and then glanced at Katou. “I think we should too.”
“What?” Katou asked, confused. His confusion only grew when Kira and Setsuna got off the couch.
It was better than a shower, and not only did it make up for the chocolate, it made up for Katou’s shitty date, too.
