She had just started to lather up the shampoo in her hair when she heard the door open. Wincing a bit as she turned her head too fast and ended up with some of the product in her eyes, she called out, "I thought I said I was going to be in here a while. Hakuba-kun? Kaito?"

A bit of a laugh came from the door. Kaito's laugh. "Sorry," he said with an almost shameless tone which Aoko was annoyed to hear as she quickly tried to wash all of the suds out of her hair so she could feel more secure in the shower.

It was bad enough that she felt awkward about being in a foreign country and having to adapt to that sort of thing, but Kaito barging in like that...

She squeezed her eyes shut as she raised her face to the stream of hot water, scrubbing at her face for a moment and then blinking when she was sure that she had washed all of the soap from her eyes. "You should know better," she scolded her childhood friend as she reached for the luffa and used it to quickly scrub at her travel-weary body. It had been a rough journey, but it would be well worth it, she thought with a bit of a smile. "Especially when you're barging in on a young lady. What kind of manners have you been picking up over here, anyway? Hakuba-kun still seems as polite as ever--"

"Yeah, well," said Kaito's voice, much closer than before, making Aoko pause and look to the shower curtain in surprise. She could see his silhouette through the opaque shower curtain. "Hakuba's always the proper British gentleman. And hey, it's not like I can see anything, anyway. Not that there's much to see, probably--"

Face now red with embarrassment, Aoko crossed her arms over her perfectly well-developed breasts thank you very much, and replied with a hot tone, "As if you'd know. You probably wouldn't know a real woman if you ever saw--"

The words got stuck in her throat as she saw digits of fingers wiggling between the edges of the curtain.

Then, closing her eyes, she growled out, "What are you up to?"

"Me?" asked Kaito innocently. "Offering to scrub your back."

That made her pause, actually considering to allow it. After all, she did feel filthy from all the traveling and it wasn't like was going to be anything more than a back scrub. Not like her active mind was thinking, making her flush red as she inwardly scolded herself for thinking about such things about the boy she'd grown up with.

... about the young man who she'd followed to France.

Feeling a tightening in her stomach that wasn't quite like nervous butterflies, she finally agreed in a grudging manner, "Fine."

She handed him the luffa and then turned her back to him, holding her arms over herself and glancing almost nervously over her shoulder as he began to do just as he said he would do. Simply scrub her back.

It took a few minutes more, but eventually, Aoko got herself to relax enough so that she could hold a normal conversation without her voice threatening to come out in odd pitches. "So how are things up here? I know you sent me all those emails and postcards, but you probably left out a lot of details."

"Hmm, not a lot," said Kaito's voice idly while his hand continued to work on her back. "There's been a few things here and again--like that Kaitou Kid heist? They said that they haven't heard anything about what might have happened during that whole thing and are--"

"Can we talk about something else besides that stupid thief?" asked Aoko sourily.

A chuckle came from behind her. "Right. What could we talk about?"

She shifted a bit, uncomfortable with standing in the same position for so long. "I don't know... how're you doing with being able to communicate in another language?"

"C'est très facile," was the smug answer.

Aoko gave a bit of a scowl, looking over her shoulder again but seeing nothing different from before. As such she turned back around and just huffed. "Well, I'm sure that since you know this so-called Language of Love, you must have all those girls going after you."

"Now, I wouldn't say that." The hand stopped scrubbing for a minute before Kaito's voice explained, "I've been having to tag around Hakuba a lot and haven't had much time to go 'exploring' those kinds of things. Besides, since when have I ever been the kind of person who did that sort of thing? I've already got you to tease in all sorts of fun ways, right?"

This not-quite question made Aoko shudder a bit, knowing that she was taking it the wrong way and unable to help it. It was Kaito, after all. Kaito was her friend. Her closest friend and, sure, he was growing up to be a wonderful young man... who had just barged in on her in the shower and then offered to scrub her back--no. She firmly put a stop to that sort of thought before it could go farther. It was just her over-active imagination getting away with her--

She never heard the small splash that indicated that the luffa had been dropped.

Instead, she felt his fingertips gently laying against her bare skin, on at the middle of her back and just along her spine.

There was no hiding the shudder that ran through her at that.

"Cold?" he asked, not seeming to take notice of the kind off silence that was coming from the girl who had been his childhood friends.

She couldn't get out a single word, seeming unable to process a single thought beyond the sensation of feeling those fingers slowly tracing themselves along her skin. Instead, she continued to hold herself close, keeping her eyes wide open as she stood there, stunned, not quite knowing what to do.

It... it wasn't an invasive sort of touch. Kaito wasn't that sort of person. She knew that. It was gentle and friendly--simply as if he was reaching out his hand for her. And yet, at the same time, it was coaxing, soothing her from this unsure creature to something more... more what?

She knew exactly what and found herself closing her eyes and blushing furiously as her mind cruelly played tricks on her and imagined a more... intimate scene. The sort of thing that that touch seemed to imply--or maybe it was all in her mind. Aoko knew Kaito wasn't interested in her in that way.

... was he?

Then came the sudden sound of the door bursting open for a second time, rebounding against the wall just as a hard voice bellowed in English, "Remove yourself from that shower, Arsène!"

Aoko started, snapping out of those distracting thoughts. Arsène?

The hand withdrew then, a noise of disappointment coming from behind her. "You just had to go and spoil everything, didn't you, tantei-san?" asked Kaito's voice--

No, that wasn't Kaito's voice at all, Aoko realized with some amount of dawning confusion and horror. It was similar, yes, but a different sort of tone and different sort of attitude...

This person hadn't been Kaito at all.
