Waiting For October

Oct 29, 2008 00:12

They're playing in Central Park
Check out him, he's shouting at the gate
"Billy didn't tell you everything
or did he mention the magic day?"

Well I figured it out from a fig tree
It's that they chose to be together in silk
Now you been bad for 50 years
and now it looks like that he's taking off his belt

Waiting for October
I cross my fingers
cross my heart
and hope to die

Waiting for October
I'm in the book
and I'll be learning how to fly

He's coming down but he's not alone
He's gonna bring an army of saints
and he's taking all his back home
and then destroying what remains

Waiting for October
I cross my fingers
cross my heart
and hope to die

Waiting for October
I'm in the book
and I'll be learning
to be wings
to be wings

Hoping that the end
will start it all again

And that's when numeral history
will die
I said that's what's so right about the day
Cause it all ends in 1999
and commences on the 28th, the 28th, the 28th

Waiting for October
I cross my fingers
cross my heart
and hope to die

Waiting for October
I'm in the book
and I'll be learning how to fly

Waiting for October
I cross my fingers
cross my heart
and hope to die

Waiting for October
I'm in the book
and I'll be learning how to fly

Neither crazy hobos nor rapture ranting nutjobs can declare when the world will end with any degree of fact, but at least there's a fun song about the former.

Today, some chick at the college republican table in the union was complaining that if McCain isn't elected, then it must be God's will is to end the world, and I'm so sick of hearing that shit. Also the whole socialism = evil equation is just hilarious. Especially because the 'tax hike' is barely restoring what it was prior to Bush's election in order to pay the bills, declaring it class warfare to get people to vote against their own interests is mindboggling (that it works).

The early Christian church formed a great deal of communes (as they interpreted the word to suggest they do) and was convinced that Jesus would return in their lifetimes (which, well, could be construed but wasn't exactly stated). A few history lessons would shut a lot of people up. The ones who view the Bible as a literal and unerring work, anyway.

Every generation thinks it will be the last.

It's big appreciation week. I appreciate you Liz! Can't wait to see you in the spring, but at the same time I hope your experience in Amsterdam remains great and will feel long enough to sate your wanderlust, at least for a little while : )
