A Fair Prospect. (Drake's Venture - The Doughtie Brothers in London)kerravongeniusMay 4 2007, 15:38:05 UTC
There was nowhere on Earth like London on a holiday. As Thomas and John made their way through streets teeming with men, women and children, all of them laughing, smiling, shouting or dancing, they could hear the shouts of men watching the cock fight nearby and smell roasting meat and spilt ale and cider. The whole city, never dull, had become a colourful posy of wonderful sights

Aw, Jayne and River getting sticky together. Okay, that came out dirtier than I meant it to. Ahem. Anyhow, you do great River. "This is against the natural order!"
Uneasy Joy (By the Sword Divided - Lucinda and Charles II)kerravongeniusMay 4 2007, 17:13:16 UTC
England had been too long without celebration, unless you could count the joy of Cromwell's funeral, the death of his joyless "commonwealth" which had not been able to stand with only Tumbledown Dick to control it. A few hundred yards from this spot, they had slain their last King, now the people were cheering and chanting for the new one. Lucinda had seen hims slip away from the sycophants and genuine friends, so hard to tell apart these days. The dullest of puritans had suddenly taken a liking to bright colours and there was not a man for miles who would not swear he had loved his exiled King with all his heart. It wearied her, she could hardly imagine how it must feel for him

Primitive Carnival (Drake's Venture- the slave Maria and Thomas Doughtie)entropy_houseMay 4 2007, 17:46:56 UTC
Maria sighed, leaned on the port rail and looked up at the stars. Thomas Doughtie paused on his way to fetch a bottle of wine . Doughtie was more puzzled than irritated by this, as Drake was as great a seeker of court approval as any

Jeannie says he needs to spend quality time with his only niece, but Rodney knows what this is really about: Jeannie getting a babysitter she doesn’t have to pay. They are on the highway in Caleb Miller’s environmentally friendly car, Madison listing every single thing she wants to do at the carnival, when Rodney’s phone rings.
“So I called your sister’s house and no one’s home,” says John when Rodney picks up.
“Sheppard? What happened? Did you injure yourself already?”
“Nah. New York got boring.”
Rodney scowls at the car in front. Only Sheppard could get bored in New York City after less than a week. “And you think I can do something about this?”
The line crackles with static. “I’m sort of in the area.”

Jeannie looks vaguely confused when she comes to pick up Madison and the car and John is here, but she takes it in stride. Madison gives John and Rodney a sticky kiss on the cheek each and her mother a petulant look; like all kids, she wants to run away with the carnival. When Millers have gone, Rodney finds them both a beer and says, “So, any particular reason why you decided to crash my family bonding time? Not that I mind, because my childcare skills are approximately nil
